Hi all,
just recently got my first cover illustration on print and I thought I'd share it with you here. It's currently in the shelves on the latest Conan album here in Norway. It's something I've always wanted to do ever since I was a little kid, so I'm pretty happy they actually decided to print it..
I have to give huge thanks to Vebjrn for helping me with getting in touch with the right people and helping with the art. Thanks a lot man!
Btw, here's a smaller scan of the cover. Pretty happy with the general layout, except that they cropped out my signature, hehehe! They changed the colors a teeny bit too (less yellowy), but I think it worked.
Since it's already printed, there's obviously not much I can do to fix things here and there, but I'd be interested in hearing what people think still. There's many little things I would have loved to go back and fix if I could. Any feedback you have is more than welcome, I can bring it with me to the next painting =).

Looks like u put alot of work into it, great work!
To offer some concstructive crit, hmm. His right shoulder is way way too
low, noway could go into that position.. if u make his head lower it would
look better i think.. also his hands look abit oversized too.. the blood on
his hands looks abit too solid too.. there is a few minor things here and
there but i dont think it matters too much..

Congratulations. Great cover!
Love the background too. I agree with Cos about his right shoulder, though.
I like your colors more than the colors of the final cover.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Really appreciate it.
-Cos: Thanks, I agree with your comments about the shoulders, those are some of the things I would have changed if I could. I might still do some fixes, just for my own personal satisfaction, hehe.. As for the hands, well, that's on purpose Just liked it better that way. But yes, out of proportion. But then I'm not going for total realism. This is very valuable feedback for me... keep it coming =)

Like the pic alot. I like the small touches you've made like the skull at the bottom of the piece and the shafts of light breaking through the trees.
The one thing I see that might be wrong is the sword's handle isn't showing in his hand. I know you wouldn't be able to see much but I don't see it at all. |

looks really nice christer!!. I think I've seen it on print, in some shops. I really like how you've made his hand so big, makes him very powerful. Also, the broken nose
you should post more ! Maybe join men and micke to figure drawing classes like we talked briefly about ?!? -we reward ourselves with beer afterwards

Great work Christer! I love the background and Conan look like he is going to kick some ass!
I'm glad to see that this type of work is still populer is Norway. I live in the US near New York and I love this type of work, but I'm sad to say that here fantasy art and comics have taken a back seat to video gaming (not to say I don't like video games I love them.)
Well keep up the good work I would like to see more of your stuff posted. I realy like it! |

Really nice to get feedback like this. Next painting I'll post here before I send it to the editor so I can fix the things I might have missed..
Joachim, thanks alot! Yes, I'll try to post more =). And figure drawing classes sounds great to me, it's something I would like to do more regularly (we had a few sessions here at Funcom, but it's been ages since last time..!)
Shadowman, glad to hear you liked it. As for fantasy art, it's a nice break from what I do on a daily basis (I work with games). Although video games seem to be taking over from comics and fantasy art, I believe there will always be room for all the different mediums to co-exist, if you think about it they are all very closely linked to each other. I think you'll start seeing this more and more as the technical challenges of creating game art get smaller, allowing the artists to have much more freedom and creativity than before. Ofcourse, this will demand more of the game artist, but the skills of a fantasy artist will thus be very applicable in the games industry.
As much as I'd love to do much much more illustration work, the main problem to me is finding enough extra time and energy to paint on top of my daily job. Feedback like this is very encouraging tho, makes me want to keep doing it.
And to everyone else that replied, thanks again =)
