Today I bought Quake 3 (it only just came out a few days ago here in Australia) and it's SO good!
For the past 1 and a half years I've been an avid Quaker, but for the whole time, I'd been living in 2D land!
So, in the space of two days I got a 3D card and Quake 3. I'm having trouble adapting to the 3D world! Ah! It's just so UNREAL!

Anyway, my point of this post was, what do you like and dislike about Q3A?

Personally, I miss the old super shotgun (from Q2) I loved that. And I don't like the sounds effect of the rocketlauncher, it just doesn't sound beefy enough. But everything else rocks! (plasma gun baby!)

The bots, I don't like the bots. There were much better in the full version than in the demo, but still in comparison with UT's bots they stink. Also I didn't like the redundancy of the maps (In fact I didn't like the space-doungon style in the first place.) Other than that it's a good game. But since I like variety in my maps, and am a huge fantasy fan, I prefer UT.

Q3 is still an excellent game though. And I look forward to the games that will use its engine (Like Half-Life and the Q2 engine.)

never got into quake much...too unrealistic (gun wise and maps), but the engine is sweet and set good standards for games like half-life which i love, especially the counter-strike add-on.

i am more into rainbow six and rouge type games

DUKE NUKEM still beats them all though lol

I got Quake3 full version and UT full version and they bolth kick ass! but i still prefer Quake3, its just...more involved.

hey Chris!, all you gotta wait for is Action Quake3!!! it will be like rainbow6, seriouly pumped though!

i didnt like how UT doesnt feel as deep as Quake3. to me UT is just a lot of pretty lighting effects and weak charater design.

quake 3 on the other hand has nice charaters and pretty innovative maps...it just takes longer to get adjusted to, and in the long run feels so much better.

you have to play the full version of bolth of them too, the demo's suck.

I like UT and Q3A. But the rocketlauncher in UT is much better. The weapons in Quake are... kinda oldy and none inventive. Also, the blood is so fake in Q3A. STill... I love it. LOL.

yeah, and the blood is just so realistic in UT!,..pleh!...yeaaa right! its turok blood...nuff said! :P

whats so different and new about UT's guns?!?! huh...huh? tell me that!
the pulse rifle(green shit) is from descent 1 along with the Flakk cannon from descent 2.
the KFMDM( ) rifle is just a rail gun/slow plasma rifle...
its got a pistol still!!!ohh 2...stole that from Action quake2 and R.O.T.T!!
and they got a machine gun....whoohoo...now were on a new weapons spree!!!!

just saying, you cant really be that original unless you want to piss everyone off. a lot of the greatest games didnt become popular until people got over their fright of something different(wich is what people keep asking for anyways).

so, be kick ass, chew bubble gum,an rock on!

I agree, Duke Nukem does beat them all. You will never find a game with more personality than in Duke Nukem. And for when it was released, it was damn good in terms of AI/Graphics too.

I for one can't wait for Duke Forever, it's gonna blow all these other FPS' away

You'll see.

First of all i'm always right! Second of all. if i'm not right then read "First of all..". Third of all.....
I liked those nicee effects and art in q3a. Rename pak0.pk3 to pak0.zip in /baseq3 folder and check out the textures! But i didnt like the style.. gameplay.. little things like sucky interface (where did the traditional spinning Q logo went?!!!) The style of quake was so unique.. medieval but yet it seems like its so different, just like another world with eerything different.. habitants, worlds, physics. The more of new games i see, the more i think Quake was the most revolutionary of all, its not just a classic, it's a starting point of all this 3d rush right now.
Quake forever!!
as i said if i'm not right see "First of all.."

my name is chris not chria....

ok, maybe i didn't word my message right...

i don't know, i haven't played quake much for awhile, so maybe it is different, but last time i played they had like guns that shot out green plasma and crap (i don't know, don't really remember) but that type of stuff i don't like

but i didn't even know of action quake, so i might try and get that is that out yet?

and for half-life, i didn't mean that i liked it better then quake i just like the add on for counter strike <- sorry forgot to mention when i was writing (swat type games and guns) is more for me....

shotgun, p90, m4, that is what i mean of more realistic....

but all that is my opinion and that's it....
it was just one of those games you play once and it just doesn't appeal to you...don't you ever have a game like that??

WTF? Quake games are no more unrealistic than a game that has a: "gluon gun", "head crabs", an "HEV" suit, and various ugly monsters that travel through warped spacetime rifts and have nothing better to do than terrorize and kill scientists.

You Love Half Life but hate Quake because its unrealistic. OK, whatever.

BTW, Duke Nukem is also so true to life ("come get some"). No wonder you like it so much.

I was spoiled by Action Quake II and Counterstrike... Regular deathmatch hasn't felt very appealing after playing those.
Not that it's a problem nowadays, anyhow. I'm behind a firewall and couldn't play UT or Quake 3 even if I wanted to... And, of course, I can't play AQ or Counterstrike, either.

Ugh.
I like both UT and Q3. But I think I prefer UT over q3 mainly because it offers more than just DM. There is nothing more boring on this earth than plain ol' deathmatch. It can be amusing and therapeutic for a while but still I prefer the joys of playing sneaky and tactical instead of blasting away with the BFG+quad. Neither of which UT or Q3 offer, but I just hope they decide to someday make the ber3Dshooter...
Think: graphics of unreal & q3 combined with hitpoints of SoF, tactical element of Counter Strike and RainBow6 with a dash of fun from AQ2. BLISS.
IMHO.

but then i'll have to get a bigger monitor,. mine only supports 640X480,.and well spending $500+ on a monitor and another $100 on a video card just so i can play a game that costs $30 seems kind of rediculous to me,..

actually i think it requires just open GL, if you can find that on a 2 meg card it should work,. but unfortunatly they only put open gl on 8 megs or better card,. err i believe that's the way they do it anywho,.
