first of all you have a lot of proportion problems. there's no easy way to get around this, just get a few books on anatomy & drawing, and try the exercises. don't waste too much time looking for figure drawing tutorials on the internet. in my experience, its a lot easier to find good anatomy information in print rather than online.
as far as coloring:
when you're trying to get shadows and highlights, don't shade with black or white, unless you're working on a grayscale picture. you have to work with your color scheme. pick a darker or more neutral shade for shadows, and a lighter shade for highlights.
once you have mastered this, experiment by shading with complementary colors, or a whole rainbow of colors. once you understand the basic rules, you can break them in just about any way you want. if you can find micke's self portrait thread, check it out and see how many different colors are in that.

Bizarde: The best way to learn is "copy" other people's work...? I think not... It's quite informative to study their work and technique as reference, but copying is a no-no...At least in my book...Chances are, if you endorse that here, you'll be publicly ostracized like certain un-named individuals.

Copying is good for practice. It's just the "practice" bit that people don't understand. Like puting it in their portfolio or showcasing it as their art. I like to try and emulate other artists. Try and get it down compleatly. You can sort of tell how an artist feels buy copying their stuff. The way they use line ect. the ammount of tension in their arm. If you do this it is good to really study what they are doing and work out why. If oyu learn from another artist, then you will learn their mistakes. especialy if you don't mix it up with some learining of anatomy etc. It's like Chinese whispers, the strength of the message will slowly erode if people hear it second hand. you will only be able to know the full truth if you listen to the originator. being nature and the world around you in the case of drawing. |

i noticed no one answered your wacom question- The USB interface is slightly faster than the serial one, but it's not that bad.. if you can only get a serial tablet, go for it- i recently got my serial graphire, and it's excellent. |

Did those tutorials that were talked about in the thread black fish pointed out( http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002245.html ) go to the forum finally. I am interested in this "real slow" process that was supposed to be shared.

I need a help with this picture
I know it sucks but I need pointers how to colorize with wacom ( this is my first wacom pic). What is a good way to colorize and get decent shadows and 3 dimensional feeling? And how do you people make metallic texture. I really want to know.
I also know that it sucks(again) and wouldn't have posted it, but I think that if I wouldn't, I would never learn.
One other thing (have to have one newbie question), is it really bad to have a serial wacom?
If I don't see some answers I will post a reply to my own thread to get your attention. I will haunt you muwahaha Well ignore this last part. |
