after seeing what some of the extremely talented have been doing with markers and paper i was captivated by the stile... so i thought id try my own during english lit class... man did my marker bleed... i couldnt tell u what style of marker i used but it was warm gray #1 p-191 (172) all that is jibberish to me... and i dunno if its the marker or the paper i used... please could i get some recommendations for materials to get next time i make my way to a art store... id like to get some markers, a few ink pens, and some drawing paper.

also if i could get critiqued on my drawing too it would be great as well... the sketch was drawn from memory of a tshirt i have at home and am gonna try using for a self portrait kinda image cuz its how id describe myself best... ill scan the shirt if i get a chance

Go buy some Canson paper at your local art store..or Aaron Bros..etc..which, isnt cheap, but works really well with ad markers, prismas..etc..or whatever markers you use. I know I bought tons of those during my industrial design and graphic design days.

A cool, albeit semi-cheezy technique for adding a background to these sheets is to simply get some pastels or other chalk substance and shave some of it off with an x-acto blade and then smear it over your masked off drawing and into the background. I dont know if everyone dose that or what, but we did it in industrial design class like mad and it can come out really nice.

surferboi,
some quick comments. Maybe you should try to sketch up the person as 3d "boxes" and "balls", trying to get th 3d volume into the shapes. Don't worry too much about all those perspective lines and smaller details in the beginning, but more of the overall shapes. Don't sketch it up with markers, but use that to give shadow that builds up the form more. At that last sketch, there's really no point in shade it like that, unless you want to clear up more details or make a lightsetting. If not it will only look like a dirty sketch. Because it don't actually add any more details to the drawing. Try to start more simple and clear, and draw what is nescessary.
hope you don't think I'm harch, just my worthless opinion, for all it's worth

keep it up !
