This is a sketch Done by Joe Mad that I cououred a while back. I repeat "I did not draw this".

I know there are a lot of tutorials about this topic on the net but if anyone is interested in how I did it, I can answer questions or posibly make a tutorial.

Crits are most certantly welcome as well.
A lot of people seem to use this style, with varying results, and I did a lot of it a while ago, so I thought I'd share it with you all.

I don't mean to sound as if I really know everything, there are a few people on this forum who are really good at colouring line art. But I haven't seen any tutorials on the subject, and a lot of poeple who use the technique look like they could use some help.

Not bad at all. Nice work with the hair and metallic objects, but I think the shoulders and breasts need a little shading. Joe Mad is the best. I really love his work. Maybe you'd like to look at old X-Men issues, the colorist that usually works with Mad is very good (kinda like any other comic-book colorist).

Don't like the old X-men colouring when Joe was penciling. Liquid are my favorite colorists. Although they do make everything shiny. (And they can't write for shit!)

And yeah Joe Mad is the best. Anyone with other ideas....hit me buddy! I'm readdy for ya

I got other ideas *punch*

joe mad would be good is the idiot would get off his fat ass and draw! ok, so i know hes not fat... hes a stick... but anyways...

i like ramos for his cartoony approach and dude... the guy actually draws, more than once a year!

i think with your colouring, you have the base colours down, but you need to add shadows, cause there isnt any... you have highlights and base tones... hehe and wonderwomans hair isnt purple, i would have used more of a blue tone, not as bright a purple maybe? i dunno, personal opinion...

i love the way ya did her suit tho, you have the metals down! great work on those, beautiful...

and i liked E.V.E... the story had potential, until 3rd issue... hehe and shiny is good! yay! hee hee. ok im done being a bitch

heheh yeah.... He says he's gonna start going bi-montly in october or somethin tho.....yeah right.
I like all the clifhanger people. Steampunk rocks....... (if you can understand what its about)

Just looking at the pic I can see awhole shitload of stuff that I did wrong. This was about a year ago, and I did't know nothin. I got the metals down pretty well. But the hair wet to pot. I just got bored. The skin is a bit lacking in some areas but I think it works ok from a design point of view.
Before I go jumping about saying I'm the king of colouring an I'm gonna do a tut. I tink I'll have another go at it. I should be able to get over all the problems you mentiond considering my skill level now. (I hope anyway)

EVE was good.....ish. The story concept is ok but the execution is a letdown. The writing is all "mom an' dad, I love you all". Full of stuff that people would't say. They don't have a grasp of speach patterns or characterisation. And while the stories are good ideas, they are totaly ripped. I mean I have seen them a hundred times beofore. Some guy was saying over at the top cow MB that they ripped soul saga off from some book, names and all. I mean I don't really care if i't true or not, but ....yuno.

Thanks for the input.

Hello,

This is just comparing with today's "liquid-topcow-image-newage-yaddayadda" style.

First, I think you're relying too heavily on the airbrush, and feathering your cuts too much instead of using them to give a nice, sharp, glossy effect. The strongest point (most like this style) is the cuff and "PING! spark" on the frontmost hand. This was really well done, and I can tell you took your time on it. You should use intricate cuts like this throughout the whole form, instead of just select spots.

Color-wise, I think you're a bit off here, because she looks a tad yellow in skintone. Add some red and lighten this up a bit.

Remember, the key here is more noticable cuts, instead of that extra-soft shading that I'm seeing here. IF you want to capture that style by the way, otherwise this just looks like an ordinary coloring of a comic drawing, which doesn't constitute a comic coloring. See what I mean?

Anyway, there is definitely potential here, so keep up the good work! :)

nice coloring, only it looks like a piece from a comic you'd see 5-6 years ago. comics are colored so much more vividly now, and have so much more dynamic lighting and shadow.

nice touches on the hair
