Howdy
Here`s yet another of my cheesy warrior poses finished . I`m fairly happy with how it turned out. Don`t bother with commenting the little things that would only apply to a photorealistic/Borislike pictures. I`ve taken care of the worst flaws and loosened up his legs. Although I have yet to adjust some contrast and color for printing matters.
As for the tutorial on this..well this turned out to be a long and messy process to get this image right, but I might get to it when I get ALOT of free time to compile into something useful.
Hope you guys think it became cool;-)

And just the whole concept is great!
LOVE IT!

As with your Buffy image I like the moody moonlit atmosphere. The warrior looks as though he's about to go into battle with someone or something.
It reminds me a little of the artwork for Goldenaxe on the Sega Megadrive.
Nice work. |

Don't think I need to say it's fantastic. It's better tham that.
Exept for the fact that it looks like the warrior is pasted on. you've still got the overhead lighting from the non background pic but there is what appears to be a strong light from behind. I would expect some sort of rim lighting. Some volumetric light streaming around the figure might look good as well. but it might also overdo it, if you know what I mean.
I like the background, and I like the figure but it's not comeing together for me at the moment.

I love how it looks, though it seems more like a cloudy day than a moonlit night to my poor eyes. About the only thing that is bothering me are the trees. I'd crop it about mmmm an inch lower (on my monitor and rez) and I think that would make it a lot better. Of course, maybe that is just my liking for dark moody pictures seeping in again. Great work! |

Nice pic. But the only problem I see with it, is the helmet of the warrior. Its photorealistic opposed to everything else and it really flattens out this peice alot. Other then that though its great. |

Oh wow, this painting has really evolved!
Great job on improving the painting at each step Vebjorn.
The mood is really perfect with tall and blue hazed forest looming in the background.
Are those skulls friends or foes?
=D
Keep up the great work Vebjorn!

..aarghh hoped you understand it
you must know my english isn't that good(thing you know it already)
But I will try again.
What I meant is the warrior looks so typical
like everybody would imagine a warrior
...standing there half naked with his axe in his hand...
hmm...maybe what I'm missing is a warrior with your personal style of looking(not only the personal technique of drawing) and not this ,,conan'' everybody knows
hope you understood what I mean
bye the way we still are waiting for the tutorial

silber i dont think barbarians had much else but big axes to lug around.
maybe if you want to go for originality, make an image of a "barbarian general" or something, with armor and shoulder plates..maybe skulls for shoulder plates, of those he killed? :P
i dunno, just to make silber happy =] |

he psi burn
don't think you understood me
but I have no idea anymore how I could describe what I would like
to say (with my poor english)
by the way I'm happy without a ,,original''barbarian too
I just posted my opinion when vebjorn
doesn't like it he can give a fuck about it
bye

I think it's great in all, a fantastic piece of work with great colors, and perfect fantasy shading. However I see two things that might be a bit off:
His hair is blowing upwards from the hearty wind in the middle of a thick forest? Doesn't seem to fit.
With the lighting, I think it's just awesome, but I agree he looks a little detached from the scene. He might seem more attached if some of that light made it to the ground surrounding him. As it is, he has a mystical glow about him, that is not illuminating his environment.
Keep it up, your work is fantastic!

Freakin' awesome man. Top shelf stuff. I agree with Gothic Gerbil though..looks more like a cloudy/rainy gloomy day (Charlie Brown) instead of a moonlit evening. Maybe the light is too strong..maybe more..soft..Im not very accomplished in lighting though (hurry up with that Digital Lighting book, Jeremy Birn!)...just a thought. Keep uo the most excellent work!!!

Two notes
Thanks for all the good comments.
Just to add: It`s conan. It`s for a cover, and the publishers like stereotype warriors in strong poses. And yes..it`s a bit cheesy and unoriginal.
He does stand out a bit, reason and tip of the day: To be able to sell it as a cover, if you cannot make out the image a 10 feet, it won`t sell..general rule;-) looking at your image at a distance, and if it gets undefined and cluttered, but looks just ok up close can give you a hint that something in your composition is of, or your color use.
