I don't usually critique other peoples stuff as I am not anywhere near perfection, but I have come to realize that more often than not I ask people what they think in order to find out what I'm doing wrong=)
sooooooo
I have a bit of trouble in separating the mic from it's shadow, and where is the lighting coming from in this pic? or is it multiple lights?
all in all a good pic tho=) better than I would presume I could do=) |

I like it a lot. very funny, very manic looking. Ive seen a lot of photos of singers like that.
I do think that if you're going to go with the smudge look it would be better to go all out, so smoothe over the eyebrows a bit (the right one mainly) |

The red of the eyes is the cornea reflected by the flash of the camera. THe light of the flash is so powerful that it lights up the back of the eye, which happens to be red. YOu should still be able to tell what color his eyes are, because the colored part doesn't relect red back at you. THis is a big big no no in painting, it most certainly identifies the viewer with photo referenced.
If you hadn't described this image as a singer of a band, I would have thought the guy had a mask on or respirator. I would get a better image of the guy showing more of the entire face...
Not a bad paint job though... |

hey, if he wants to draw red-eye, why not? it is art after all, i can see the painted reproduction of photographic faults as a larger statement. at least he's showing all the world that its from a photo instead of trying to hide it.
i'd be interested in seeing some art posted in which the method attempts to portray some kind of message. (even if its hard to figure out what that message is) unfortunately, it seems like a lot of people today are really wrapped up in the whole angst thing. :P
anyways, i'm babbling.

Sometimes you have to figure out colors that would be there if it wasn't a flat picture. It's ok to draw the exact picture, but the picture will lie as far as colors most of the time. If thats what you like, to let others wonder why you didn't do it this way or whatever. Then thats your style. Just all I'm saying is that sometimes you'll have to add more colors that arn't in the picture to have the drawing look right when you stand back and view it.
Just a though dawg... I like it man. Keep up the good work. How long did you work on that by the way? |
