Here's a picture of my girlfriend Jess holding her baby cousin. Done in oil pastels. I wish I had time to finish the baby, but it's due tonight!

Oh man, oil pastels..ug. I used to like em but i switched to just chalk pastel. Great work. Do you use anything to thin them down with or just use them straight outta the box?
Knowing how "rough" this medium is, I think you did a great job. Is this your first use, or have you done stuff with them before?

I would have to agree with synj...I tried oil patels a few times and wasn't able to do anything worth showing anyone....did you pick that medium yourself or was that part of the class?
what else do you have? |

Well, I'm back from class and got an A- for the picture. Why? Because the baby's not finished! That'll teach me to wait two hours before class to do a week long assignment.
Sam: Yeah, I just whipped them badboys on there. I'd never used them before and after the first half hour it was looking like crap. But seeing as I only had another hour before class I perservered and gradually got the hang of it. You just have to think of them as paint, I guess. My teacher said that you can brush on small amounts of turpentine and it'll behave like real paint, but wouldn't it be better to just use paint?
Synj: I used to suck royally at fine artsy stuff like this, too. And I have so much more to learn. This forum is cool because you get to see such a wide range of talent and style. I look at your stuff and I think "hey, he must have a lot of fun doing that stuff." And that's what it's all about.
Ozenzo: We had to do an experimental piece with a medium we hadn't used before. A couple of my classmates really pushed the limits of the assignment. Hehe, this one guy glued real sand onto a picture of a beach he painted. Hmmm...

That's nice - colors are great. I hope you finish it and post the final piece sometime.

Very Nice!
Like Joachim said, it's nice to see some traditional work here for a change.
