I know you area surprised by that

When people here post art for critique, I have seen the same mistakes made over and over. No BG, too much contrast, light and shade confused, etc.

What I propse is to do a painting, from the start, on the boards. I will post a photo of a head that we will be working from, and then post each step. Whoever wants to can then copy each step and post it in the same thread. I imagine about 5-10 steps in weekly intervals.

I learned so much from copying. It is really useful. After you do this, try another head that is similar, but a little different. Kinda like changing one variable at a time.

A lot of folks have better ideas of organizing things like this, so please with suggestions.

Might also ask if anyone would be interested?

Sure, might be a nice change. I rarely copy anything, might as well give it a shot.

I like your idea because of it's control over what is being used, a step by step. Here was what I was toying with: what if you, master background builder, created a scene, a set for some action, or not, just a setting waiting to be populated. Then let everyone toy with implementing a scene to the foundation.
Or create a character, and a setting, and have everyone create a shot utilizing both elements, and possibly introduce some new ones to accompany it.
Just get everyone thinking. Using their noggin and creating things they never would have thought of on their own. It'll teach a little about storyboarding or story illustrating, sharpen up putting many objects into the same field of perspective, scale, composition, etc. Just a thought.

that sounds like a great idea. will the photo be some creative lighting setup, or will u choose one with a basic flat lighting setup to give us some room for creativity?

can anyone get in on this project! I have a week off before I start my new job, and I like this community! I'd love to have the chance to impress a new group of artists

Another thought: what if more than one artist completes a step in the drawing (i.e. torso, shoulders, arms, hands, etc) - will we have multiple branch points and multiple completed images? Or are we all just gonna draw the same thing?

Sounds fun.

What I'd really like is a bit of discussion on choosing realistic colors, too. I definitely have trouble with that.

That would be great, I'd like to participate!

Could I ask if there's a particular reason it should be a head though? I'd prefer to practice doing some scenery or interiors for a change, especially as you're so good at those...
