Not sure if anyone's done this but...

I've recently started using the following trick for helping me with value in a painting. I create an Adjustment Layer in PS and take the saturation all the way done, reducing the image to greyscale. This way, I can toggle between color and gray without having to convert the entire image.

This really helps to determine if the value map in correct or f'd up.

Any thoughts?
