Umm... well you seem to have your shading skillz down, but what bothered me is that his nose, eyes, ear etc are all misaligned. Make sure you sketch out the basic shapes first, so things dont get bent all out of shape...

Other than that it looks quite promising.

Yeah, when working on a rendering like this, don't do a lick of shading until you have all the elements (eyes, nose, ears etc.) sketched in the correct places.

Also, where is your light coming from? Make some darker darks in the correct places - in mouth, under chin, in the ear. The right cheek (our left) seems smushed into the face.

This is all assuming you're trying to do a traditional, realistic rendering. However, not enough people like personal (read: nonrealistic) style, and I like the style of the piece, so just finish it!

I agree with Spitfire. try and think wee your Light source is coming from most of all..1 small error I noticed first was the light in the eyes, there from 2 differnt directions.

Apart from all that, the good basic elements are there, just try not to complete the shading untill its correctly in position.

Also try and make your parts join (like above the left ear) this looks taccy un unfinsihed (unless this peice is)

But it has a good feel to it

Keep it up

Thanks fellas.

The light source was coming from below right...

I did have pencil sketch with all the face proportions and such down, and it looked ok. But somehow it didn't translate to the painting too well.

And I was going for my own style but I wanted it to be realistic in the sense of the shading and light, but the proportions and structure I wanted to be in my own style..
