I'm just wondering in terms of posting sketch images like this on forums where I want the size to be enough so that the detail work and such is apparent, but at the same time, I don't want the image to be too huge. At what size would the quality of this sort of thing start to degrade?

http://forums.sijun.com/viewtopic.php?t=41678
The above was saved from psd to jpeg at image quality level 9. Back int he day I used to do everything at quality level 12 thinking that anything less would harm the image(the people over at CA started moaning about their modems...). Is there some sort of calculation or science to it, or is it just a matter of visual trial and error?

8-9 should be enough. Look at you gradients and sharp edges. If there's jpg artifacting, you have to go higher.. but with 8-9 they should be good.

50 percent in Save for Web is often enough for my taste.

I remember Dusso actually added .jpg artifacts to his images to get rid of the artificial planes of flat color.

IMO, it's laughable how much people are concerned about .jpg artifacts. I wish that was the biggest issue with my stuff, hehe!
