Ok, my Wacom bluetooth came yesterday Fed-ex, and this was my first using Gimp. I have two other vector programs that run on MacOSX but I want to get opinions on my first drawing. Rip me a new one. I'm doing this for fun and I really think this is cool stuff. I'm a software developer but I have always liked art and I do watercolor paintings sometimes.

I think it works well overall. Don't worry about keeping within the lines. Just go right over them and paint different regions into each other.

Perhaps try to save high contrast and activity for the focal points, so the most fun bits to look at are the bits that mean something. (Eg. I like looking at the top half of the body of the fish, whilst the face is not as engaging.)

For a more illustration type feel, maybe try building up over a non-white background. So that the whole rectangle is image, and the fish is in the image. For science style illustration tho I think it's appropriate as is.
