hey guys,

These are my two latest pieces, both done in Painter and PS. A bit of a departure from the old all-out brush crazyness of my previous painter work, but I hope that's not for the worse in this case Smile

hope you like them!

seems alot of digital painters forget about this aspect but, the "drawing" is what impresses me most in these paintings. it's all here!

superb! i cant even say which i like better, these are both great!
i guess the skin texture fits better in the first than the second, it seems a bit
rough for a young woman. i like what you get out of painter brushes, i wish i could do that

Thanks a lot guys!

I used both drawings and photo as reference for these, actually one of the few times i did proper research before digging into the painting Smile

Cheers

I love you Mon Wink

As I prefer a balance of rough brushstrokes and noise in comparison to anything clean and 'polished', I wonder if you have any techniques to share to get such rich texture with brushes only (and preferably!). Because even with brushes with nice texture or variation I find it hard to have the texture stay unless I just 'dot' it instead of actually stroking. Do you 'dot' a lot on different layers and opacity? When I stroke, the texture kind of disappears. Thanks.

Cheers guys Smile

Daryl, I'm not quite sure how to respond to that.. Painter has a couple of very distinct brushes that leave lots of juicy marks when painted in 1:1 resolution. That's how I sketch, and then later scale up the image to the output resolution. So a lot of these early marks are still in there from the sketch. I think it all comes down to being a bit careful/ruthless about where you place your focus points, and trusting the painting to work even tho not every inch has been "polished". I hope this helps a bit but feel free to expand on that and maybe I can help out some more Smile

kalakal, actually set up the old easel and all my oil paints last year and tried to get back into painting traditionally. It was a total disaster Smile No I think I'm too lazy and complacent to do anything in oils at the moment, maybe after the apocalypse when there are no more computers, but not until then Wink

Thanks!

Dude, Mon, these are freakin' choice(!!). Totally digging the guy with the feline (?) skull. Also, total aces on 2nd image from the top, it's very "brushy", got a nice look to it. All around four examples of some seriously awesome skill.
