Hi all,

First time poster, long time lurker Smile.

I was wondering if anyone here has done any digital woodcut/ink work? I was looking at Michael Halbert's page and I was humbled by his skill.

http://www.inkart.com/pages/Tutorial/index.html

Has anyone else tried to develop a similar technique? Are there any other artists out there, beside Michael, who specialize in ink/woodcut art?

Thanks!

Hi,

Different style from that of Michael Halburt:

Scratchboard and woodblock art by Chet Phillips, done using Corel Painter exclusively:

Portfolio 1 - Digital Scratchboard

Portfolio 2 - Woodblock - The Life of an Imaginary Friend and 13 Incomplete Chapters of Mysterious Circumstances

Portfolio 3, Section 1 - Woodblock - Reigning Cats and Dogs

Portfolion 3, Section 2 - Woodblock - A Breed Apart Series and Fur Face Series

Portfolio 3, Section 3 - Digital Japanese Woodblock Prints

Chet Phillips Illustration - Home Page

On the home page, click the "About Chet" link then scroll down the page to find a partial list of clients, and very impressive lists of Digital Shows, Periodical Profiles, and Showcase Publications in which Chet's work appears. In the Painter IX Handbook, there's a tutorial by Chet Phillips, and his work also appears in The Painter IX WOW! Book, among many other books.

A lot of us take an easier route than Chet Phillips no doubt takes (since he's been doing his scratchboard and woodblock work "by hand" using Painter since long before this Effect was available in Painter:

The Painter 7, Painter 8, and Painter IX Woodcut Effect, easy to do the basics, but still fun and a method that still provides nearly endless possibilities if one is inclined to experiment and explore them, and combine the Woodcut Effect with drawing, painting, and other Corel Painter features.

Another site you might find interesting if only for history's sake:
