previews from an upcoming (hopefully) EP:
Buford Highway
Suspended City
Sum Other Funk
Seven Cymurai
(you may have heard early versions of some of these)
preview of a remix I did for a UK label:
Concrete Soul - It's Grooving (Brian Prince Remix)
Sorry about the cut-length previews, but I'd rather not have this stuff showing up on peer-to-peer until after it's out.
Thanks for listening, and for your comments on early versions. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

Sounds familiar. Cool stuff. I really like it!
"Concrete Soul" has some nice sounds!!
Just the fade out is too long I think. ABout 17 seconds. That's quite long...not? |

Well, the full track is 7 minutes, if that makes the fade seem more proportional
Thanks MK. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

I'm not a specialist of this particular genre, but I'm liking these.
I like the sounds, very relaxing. I'd rather listen to this than the new Prodigy album. |

Oh yeah, I like these much better than the last batch of stuff. These have a more mellow and melodic feel to them, with synth lines that bring me back to the good ol' days of 808 State. |

Just an update on this: I've signed a record deal and the first promos should be pressed up within a couple weeks. Yay! Thanks for your support over the years, guys. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

Thanks mang, though it'll actually come out on vinyl first. Wax is still the preferred format for techno. It might make it onto CD compilations though. I'm going to talk to them about doing the iTunes store or something too. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

Heh right uh I was just testing you that's it.
Obviously I'm not very well acquainted with the techno music world. I actually play guitar in a trio that's more into progressive and old art rock stuff. We're a long way from a record deal though!
Still, good job. _________________ Francis Tsai

great work man, suspendedcity reminded me of pacific 202 by 808 state....
A question for Brian and Shizo - what kind of equipment/programs are you using? anything like reason / pro logic?
and what is your setup like, sequencers etc...?
I;ve only really tried reason.
anyway sorry to deviate |

Thanks.
I use Orion by Synapse as my sequencer. Riding on top of that I've got a few software synths, a Synapse Junglist and Poly-850, and a LinPlug RM-4 for drums. And I just use Goldwave (lol) for final mastering (not mixing though, that's all done in Orion).
That's a lot less than what most people think they need, but I find that limiting my palette keeps me focused on the music instead of the tools. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

Andromeda - cool man, I have much respect for jazz guiatrists!
Brian here's a question for you - how do you go about getting a digital recording of a midi drumtrack? I use cakewalk to put together simple guitar, bass and drum scratch tracks, but I've always had to find a weird kludge to get the midi drums onto the wav file.[/img] _________________ Francis Tsai

Francis: I don't do a lot of porting MIDI around, because Orion pretty much does everything I need internally. But if I had to guess, I'd say the problem might be that MIDI drums are usually all on one channel, with different notes being different parts of the drum kit. Usually you'd want to feed that channel into a VST or DirectX drum machine capable of linking the right notes with the right drums. Does Cakewalk support VST instruments? My favorite software drum machine is the Linplug RM-IV. It's not dirty cheap, at 150 bux, but it comes with a TON of nicely assembled drum kits. I think it even comes with a bunch of pre-programmed MIDI beats but I've never actually used them.
If you're just doing simple stuff and don't need the huge array of knobs that the RM-IV has, there are probably a number of free VST/DX drum boxes you could use. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |
