Okay so ive been contemplating this for awhile now, and highschool is almost at an end for me and i will be going into college for art, but i am confused as to what will get me where i want to go. Id like to be in the game / movie industry doing some sort of designing characters, environments etc etc.
Which is the best choice for something like what i want to do ?
Its probably a weird question but gimme your input. |

Hi,
Congratulations on your upcoming graduation!
Others here will no doubt give you some good advice but since you say you want to design characters, among other things, I thought of Don Seegmiller.
There's a very nice interview with Don, done by Anton Granik, that you might enjoy reading (be sure to note his advice to young artists who are just entering the field... it's near the bottom):
Don Seegmiller Interview
Also, if you haven't seen it already, go to your local bookstore and take a look at Don's book, "Character Design and Digital Painting". You can read about it a little, and take a look at his artwork at:
The Art of Don Seegmiller - Contents
Good luck with whatever direction you decide to take!

thanks for those links, he is quite the talented fellow.
As far as i know i am leaning towards going in for illustration, and at sheridan college u choose interpretive or scientific after the first year and i looked through their site and coulndnt really get a good hold as to what the differences are, other than the obvious.
Could anyone shed some light on that? |

Have you thought about trying a little of animation and illustration? I had a hard time telling exactly what the right course of study for me would be, so I've tried a few different classes and found I really like the illustration/drawing side of computer art rather then animation and 3-d modeling.
Seegmiller's book was very helpful to me. I have access to an online version of it. The files included with the book are a great addition to the material covered in the book. |
