This is a remix of an awesome track by a group called, "The Revels" Just a simple idea that got out of hand.
Sliced up the original into a couple loops, fixed the timing on them, EQ'd them, mixed them...added a big beat, other noises, clich filtering and all that good stuff you thought you escaped in 2001 when fatboy slim finally fell off the charts.
Anyways, it's back!
You might remember this Revels track from the movie Pulp Fiction. |

You're welcome!!
I got some questions...What software are you using mostly for your tracks?
This might sound noobish but I have always been interested in making (electronic) music, have absolutely now idea though, how it works and what you need.
I have some fictitious tracks in my mind and would like to manifest them.
Drum'n'Bass, Ambient but mostly Orchestral like stuff.
Is there any good free software out there I could start with? Is it all about loops anyway?
I played piano for 7 years so I am not a total noob concerning music but digitally I've got no idea how
I could make my "in mind tracks" reality.
It might be naive to think I could make anything at all but,...well i'd like to try...
Thanks in advance for any hints and tipps : ) |

Well, I use a piece of software called Buzz Tracker. It's free and available Here. I love Buzz, it does everything I need and In a way that I understand and am comfortable with... but it's certainly not the best software for everybody. It's modular, it scrolls downward, it's numbered in hexadecimal and there's no undo button. For all too many it's overly difficult to understand and unfriendly to use.
so for other programs that might be better...
Free? I don't really know of any free software that's all that great. Basically the only group of people still making free software studios are the Tracker crowd who make Buzz Tracker and the such.
but for things you can buy or...acquire...:
Reccomended commercial software:
Propellerhead Reason - Basically looks like a studio rack with synths, samplers and some effects. Everything the program has is always in view. uses a piano roll interface. Has a pretty pointless modular routing system. can load samples, loops and multisamples. has an orchestral library called, "orkester" that ships with it. Can not load VST or VSTi Plugins.
Imageline Fruity Studio - Has a "windowed" interface. lots of features. piano roll or step sequencer. can load VST and VSTi plugins. Can load DX Plugins. Does not come with very good built in synths, but that's where VSTi's come in. Does not ship with a good sample library. Can load multisamples.
Other:
Cubase SX - Probably the most standard program here - is the most like a standard midi program. Piano Roll. standard pre/post insert/send effects routing system like in hardware. Loads VST and VSTi. Loads DX too I think. Ask Lunatique for more.
Orion Pro - Ask Ballistic.
Sony ACID Studio - Loop based. Sample based. Has midi and vst support now. can load dx too. can not load multisamples unless you load a vst that can load multisamples.
Ableton Live - think of ACID Studio on crack. |

I've got a DJ-type friend who can crank out some impressive (and complex) beats with Reason in under 15 minutes. Propellerhead's products are all pretty intuitive (see also: Rebirth), if only for being direct emulations of physical synthesizers. I've had Buzz for quite a while now and, just as Jamez says, I have found it way too obtuse to make music. I'm a flaming simp, mind you, so you may have some better luck with it.
(In case you're curious, this is pretty much the only thing I've ever created with Buzz. A production effort totalling over one whole hour of home row-mashing (you'll see) and effect muddling, this beat is STILL sending ripples throughout the hip-hop/dance community: http://www.malapropter.com/muzak/firstbeat.mp3 ) _________________ QED, sort of. |
