Hey guys.
Yes I found a place to host forums for free and I decided to make it an attempt with it. This place will be only Traditional works allowed and I made some different sections along, feel free to check it out and maybe join the dark side of the forum force if you want, think it can be fun this.
Let me know what u guys think.
Here's the adress:

good move I'm sure it'll be a gas.
Since you said 'let me know what you guys think':
Have you thought about reducing the number of categories/subdivisions?
Since it's new and there are fewer members than at a long-running forum, do you think it's a bad idea to split and separate the community out? I always thought that was something sijun benefited from - having fewer categories thereby concentrating the traffic and the members into the same place, making it a more lively place to be.
Shoot me if I'm wrong. |

I have to agree with Capt. Fred. I find having so many categories/subdivisions is somewhat confusing. O.o
I do like the idea a lot though. _________________ DA Gallery| LiveJournal

I really don't see why the forum has to be devided into Drawing section and Painting section. You can draw aw you paint and paint as you draw. Drawing isn't linework like most people think. As captain fred said, it'll spread the people around and that can't be good for a forum just starting out.
Good luck on the new forum. |

Much appreciate your answers guys and an impressive move from you trurl with just joining me forum, that I do appreciate a lot, can we make it work trurl?
Lunatique, yea I am and have been a member for quite some time now in the cennini forum under the same nickname "Matthew", can't say I like that place though. Too much -"hey buy this paint and do that and do this", hardly no paintings posted there.
I guess I am looking for that Sijun feeling in a traditional kind of way.
With the sections, hmm have to think about that. I still think Sijun deserves a few more sections, just a couple of them though to make things more organized. But hey, Dhab doesn't care and I have tried to make changes but let us put my whining down to history from now on.
here's a painting blooper I just posted in trurl's and my forum:

see you and thanks again for your comments.

as far as categories go i guess it could work as is. if a category isn't working it will 'disappear' soon enough. i would just like to see more than a few people join and participate. i like the idea because it could be a good venue for elevating sketchy and hand drawn stuff to a more visible level. that kind of thing has a little trouble here at sijun because it gets relegated to a struggling thread here and there. it could be really fun to have a place to focus on the media and technique and the like... i do a lot of thumbnails to work out ideas and compositions but don't really have a place to put them. now i do. but i will always be playing and lurking at sijun too.
it will sort itself out anyway just like everything else on the net. if people like it it will grow. try it. you might like it. |

i never noticed until just now that there is a 'digital art' title line above the forum topics on the main screen. is sijun supposed to be a digital only place? i've seen some traditional stuff around here but.. |

You can post whatever you want: digital, traditional, sculpture, 3D, photography, anything. It just says "digital art" because it's what the constituency knows best. _________________ QED, sort of. |

ok the idea wasn't working and I pulled the plug of the forum
http://www.setbb.com/phpbb/index.php?mforum=matt
, we gaved it a good solid week though and I am glad I did try it out, some things I did learn with admin settings and such.
However this is something I want to do for the future, the start of a traditional forum obligated to the inspirational side of art and inspire eachother just like we do here.
Any tips on how to do it? Cause my fundings aren't that big and I guess I will probably be poor for a long time, so I guess probably sponsors and such could be the way to go, or hmm maybe start out small with a small webspace for the php? How much starting space would be required when starting out a forum?
Or hmm am I wasting my time with this? are there already forums obligated to digital and that is all that people need in the web?
btw Capt.Fred you were right, much more efficient with fewer categorys which I did try out before pulling the plug, lesson learned. I better keep my mouth shut in the future.
Any thoughts on above concerns will be highly appreciated.
thanks again
Matthew (Mattias)
trurl, I believe the forum started out as a digital one, I guess the main part and flow of the forum still is digital. |
