I bought a brand new Dell 1905FP for a couple of reasons.
1 - Good reviews. Got a similar rating to Sumsung 193F. In particular, good marks for image clarity and color quality.
2 - We have an earlier version at work called the 1901FP which looks fantastic.
Anyway, here's the problem:
This is with the latest drivers which include an ICM profile. This is horrendous.
I could alter the gamma from the graphics card, but it skews the colors and makes them saturated.
I just don't understand how 2 previous TFTs could have been crap, and a brand new one (a newer model than a perfect one at work) could still have this problem.
It's not my PC or graphics card, as I just plugged in the laptop and I get the same.
Any advice or any help at all would be appreciated as I know alot of you are experienced with LCDs. I don't want to spend money on something like Liquid Color Calibration software if it's not going to work. |

i remember i had this problem pretty bad too.. 2 lcd's here Planar 17in and Samsung 171v. Combination of brightness/contrast/etc with a custom profile (i use AdobeRGB1998) seems to make it work. _________________ "A fear of weapons is a sign of retarded sexual and emotional maturity" - Sigmund Freud |

Drunken Monkey: Thanks. Micket (on Eatpoo) suggested a little program called Powerstrip and I've managed to get it looking alot better.
I'm just surprised the 1901FP looks great out of the box and the 1905FP needed massive gamma calibration.
Do you think a program like this would be worth the money? :
http://personalcomputing.portrait.com/us/products/lc_overview.html
Instead of playing around with gamma for Red, Green and Blue, it creates a parametric (of sorts) ramp for each color to push the gamma curve in certain places.
Can't find any reviews for it, and it might be quackery. |

do they offer a demo? I mean paying $40 for something you are going to use once..
Do try different profiles. It was literally night and day for me. The "Holy Shit that looks Better" moment.
also, i look at my monitors at 10-15 downwards degree angle.. but you probably looked at it from every imaginable angle already. just thought to point it out.. at 90deg many blacks merge. _________________ "A fear of weapons is a sign of retarded sexual and emotional maturity" - Sigmund Freud |

The Dell 19" LCD probably has only 6 bit per color and use dithering to similate 16.2 million colors. I am pretty unhappy with mine also. |
