Does anyone know if there's some company somewhere where you can get outdated or classic games? I came across a game years ago that used Giger's artwork. From memory it was called Dark Seed.
I never got round to finishing it, and it was only on floppies at the time, so the disks are now dead. Any help--totally appreciated. |

Guess you'd need to find and install that 286 emulator.

Oh, poo, I can't get it to work either. Spent ages trying this, trying that with my limited programming knowledge and it won't even install itself. For some reason the system doesn't recognize the folder. ??!??

that game scared the shit out of me on my amiga. I have vague recollections of a baby in a box at the front door that kept changing into a skeleton thing?
does that make sense?
weird.

Yep, it does. From deep, dark, dim memory its a very creepy game. I just wish I could get it to work...
Can anyone out there help? *big puppydog eyes*
Actually, no, scrap that request. There's a forum at the Gaming Depot. I think I'll lurk over there for a while...

They do! Oh, f**k, what's wrong with Dark Seed. I even tracked down cyberdreams. http://idg.ienet.com/cyberdreams/current/dawson.html The lights are still on, but noone appears to be home. mumble, mumble...
Anyway, its still a great link Ceenda, thanks again. I'm going to go lurk some more. No, scratch that. I'm going to sleep. |

Thorn: Tell me the exact error that you get when trying to run the game and I'll see if I can offer any solutions as I'm quite into the abandonware scene and have managed to get quite a few games to work. |

Oooh, thanks Ceenda, I'll try to be as clear and waffle free as I can. Ok, here goes.
In Windows 98, after winzip unpacks everything, I get at the beginning of the installation-
error as follows:
On script line 31 we had a problem:
file C:\DARKSEED\*.* not available
Much the same thing under DOS. Its like the folder is invisible in the system, if that makes any sense. Maybe I'll try downloading it again. Who knows...*sigh*

Hi there.
When people archive the games they usually just zip up the gaming directory. When you unpacked the archive, was there only an INSTALL.EXE(or something like it) or were there any other *.EXE or *.COM files in the directory, as you may not need to install the game. You might be able to run it from the directory you unpacked it to. |

Oh!!! Got it! It does run straight out of the zip, with a few tweaks here and there. I was so excited, I was missing the obvious.
Definitely a "windows icky!" dos game, though. Hangs after the intro, but I should be able to fix that with a customised boot disk.
I can see why you're into abandonwarez, Ceenda. This is fun stuff.
Thanks
