Hi there! i decided to stop working on this one now and post it since ive been pretty inactive at sijun latelly haha! hope ya like it, crits welcome but i may come after you and kill you because i am the angel of death and it all has begun. just kidding, i might tweak it a little but more afterwards Smile

the reason i made this was for practising perspective and thinking before doing, it is one of the cleanest psd files i have, all in nice layer sets and stuff.

edit: here's some zoom-ins for ya

early sketch:

cheerio!

Hooray for Cap'n !

Really slick work mate. You've came a long ways away from since I first seen you posting here, and I'm sure everyone who's been here long enough can agree.

There are a few minor mirror issues on your building caused by irky perspective, but the overall detail and ambiance is perfect that it melts away.

Francis.

oh... wow
this piece is very clean and slick... i love it
i can't tell that the perspective is off as snakegrunger said, so no worries about that.
the rendering technique is perfect for this type of image... nice work Wink
-ps or painter btw?

damn you...you always have the best lighting in your work...a very endearing piece. it's a lot cleaner than earlier work i've seen...If i may ask...would you be so kind as to post a detail crop of the roof?...i don't know why...it just looks so nicely rendered...please don't be offended that out of the entire work I want to see the roof...

Flawless. Your best yet I'd say. I'd really like to see a high-res version of the roof tiles as well.

its beautiful cap'n. i thought it was a picture at first. then i thought it was done in a 3d program. then i read the description. then i saw ur beginning speedpaint and i really thought that u had used a 3d program for a block test but it was all in photoshop or painter. beautiful job sir. i love it. mood and lighting r stunning.

Haha thank you all for the compliments

Odds: its made in PS 7.0

the_Insider: haha no problem, i'm actually "roud" of the roof aswell, cause painting stuff like that is a pain in the butt, there is no, "paint from top and transform to place"

Annisahmad: thanx, actually i try to think of like if i was working in a 3D program, sort of building up the perspective in "manual splines" and then create surfaces in the color i want it "shader" and then texture them up andd detail them "textures and bumpmap". and i hate the raytracing part hahaha Wink

Matthew: feels great that u wanted to run and paint when u saw it Smile

ok put the details on the top just so u know!

I love some of the beautiful soft shadows and light under the roof. Looks like global illumination render, really nice and solid and real.

Beautiful Captain, brilliant.

Right, criticism. The waterfall and to the right of the waterfall is the weakest part of the image, i think. too uniform, and not as strong as the sketch in that area, imho.

I like the sky and mountains and background trees too. Love the design/comp.
just think there's a little too much and to consistent a spread of bright highlighting on the grass under the decking, and the waterfall isn't working as brilliantly as the rest.

Final verdict: Shocked YES!

I like it a lot, Cap! Smile I admire your skills to paint those lovely trees.
Just some edges and textures are IMHO too sharp for example on the ground next to the waterfall and on the mountais. That makes your pic look a little much too busy. I would like to get restfull feeling from this.

Did you start this from some sort of lineart (scripple) or did you started to block with the colors immediatly?

Completely Beautiful Cptn, I respect you beyond belief. You've got to be one of the the most talented digital artists around. As for critiques, I think you could break up the grassy area in the lower rigth with areas of flatter color, or some value variation. It just seems to patterned and distracting right now.

Very nice! Too bad you didn't have this one when writing for d'artiste--it would've made a great piece for a tutorial.

You keep saying you need to strenghthen your figures and faces, but how come you don't seem to do them too much?

I love the detail on the building, looks like it came from a photo

maybe you should add some more detail to the foilage in front and to the right of the building, right now the building seems a lot more detailed than the foilage in these areas

Weaselball2: roger that ive had alot of comments about that part! ill fix it

Warhead82: mostly i use the regular round ones, but sometimes custom brushes, for leaves and stuff.

Lunatique: have u ever heard of something called FEAR? haha Wink oh and lazyness is also an answer t that one!

skullmonkeys: hmm i dont really understand, u mean how i did it or why i did it?

cicinimo, rgr ill fix!

Neff: hell yes i used alot of them, but when im happy i flatten them, but i try to keep certain things in layers, for example, "Landscape, Trees, house, foreground"

Tepox: thanks! it all depends, for objects like houses and cars and stuff i need to do some sort of linedrawing, but for trees and organit things i just bake it up and fix it while im making it.

Capt.Fred, thanx man i will try and fix what i have learned from the crits from all of you, feels good to learn to se new stuff by letting other people look them up haha Razz

Cheers all! and sorry for replying backwards....
