Ive never really have taken any time to draw until a couple days ago me and a friend rented ghost in the shell (pretty cool manga flick) anyway over the past few days I started looking up pics on the net...and last night sat down and sketched this off the top o my head. Anyway I was hoping some of you more refined artist could tell me what I fooked up on =). Think its worth trying to color in photosohp? http://www.isgroup.net/clanisg/images/manga_chick.gif

Well, weather I'm refined or not, is up to you, but here it is: Her head is far too large for the thinness of her torso area (either widen the torso, or make the head smaller), and her breasts are way too high up. If this is supposed to be manga, try making her 'armor' more rounded, having curves that fit into curves for the joints or seperate parts of the armor. If you understand what I mean then it should help this look more like it's supposed to be a manga drawing, not an americana comic-style drawing. I would also cut out the liney detail on the hair. Usually in anime, hair is large thick whispy shapes, you don't actually draw single lines for strands of hair.
This was just my little opinion, not to be taken personally, just because you asked for some comments. I certainly am not any kind of authoratative figure on drawing manga, but I like to help
I really like the idea of this one, and I hope it progresses further to the point where you're happy with it and color it, because you have a good thing going so far.
Keep up the good work

Scoop, this is manga, so anything goes. The proportions look allright to me. Work on some detail. |

If anime and manga were "anything goes" they wouldn't even be pegged as a style. Its the fact that there are certain restrictions and a special style that make a piece fit into the manga genre. The way the pic is now looks much more like a 1990-1995 american comic style (I date it because 1998-2000 comic style is all american/manga blends).

The whole manga style is defined by the unreal proportions, like the huge heads and the super-long legs, huge eyes and tiny mouths... Trying to draw manga while sticking to real proportions is impossible.
That was my point, =) but you are right about the drawing, now that I looked again. |

This'll sound weird(?) coming from a guy:
I think her breasts should be smaller.
They are the only things unproportionate to the rest of her body (the "large" head doesn't bother the whole of the picture.)

If you were referring to my post, I didnt mention they should be smaller, I was just stating that they should be lower
Breasts never get that close to a woman's chin, not even with pamela implants, or disproportioned anime. It would be understandable if this were a "bottom looking up view" but it isn't in this case.

sc00p...i think the "breasts" you're referring to are supposed to be BREASTPLATES...like armor...so of course they're gonna be high up...
Or at least i *think* its armor...heh
If not, yeah, pull those down.
