Still unfinished.
Adding vocals now.

Still in progress, but wanted to share. :D
Gonna add more parts later. Some vocals or vocal sounds, some key changes maybe. A change in the drums. Scratching....
Anyways, enjoy.

Pretty cool! though...I think it needs some more variation.
1:02+ is really good....it just should be longer.
Waiting for the final version |

Very niiiice. Hurry up and finish it! Your mixing seems to be improving-or maybe it's just my new EQ setting in my media player.
Are all the synth parts buzz machines? |

Thanks. :D
Luna, here's an mp3 of what's buzz synths in the song:
whatsbuzz.mp3
The rest of the sounds are .wav samples of drums, guitars, vocals. the pad thing is the VSTi impOSCar which I think I'm gonna remove, i'm pretty sure I can find a better sound. |

You know, those buzz machines are quite impressive. I suppose there's no reason why they shouldn't sound just as good as commercial VST's since it's just a bunch of code, right?
How do you like impOSCar? The guys at KVR are all into it. But then again, they get like that over every new VST released. They've been writing love letters about Live 4 too lately.
BTW, I've got a new tune too: http://forums.sijun.com/viewtopic.php?p=358908#358908 |

hahah. :D
Yeah. Honestly Buzz machines and VSTi's are the same thing...and I don't just mean soundwise...I mean the same product.
on KVR-VST you might have seen Whitenoise Audio's Additive Synth VSTi. That's been a native buzz machine since 2001.
The OhmForce plugins were also made in Buzz first before being released as VST effects. Same with the BGtech VST, RTAS and soon Hardware processors.
Other VST and VSTi that are also Buzz machines have been made by Muon Audio, SmartElectronix, Sonic Timeworks, FunkFX and many others.
The Jeskola XS-1 VSTi sampler is one of the highest quality samplers available. Got a native Buzz version too. :D

Are you enticed yet? :P

Anyways, ImpOSCar is pretty l33t. It's got a nice sound. I was comparing it to a Roland MKS-50 and it's about the same sound. |

Yes I am and I'm trying so hard to fight it! I tried Buzz once last year and the hexadecimal numbers had me screaming and running back to conventional sequencers. I dunno, maybe you have a workflow that can be as smooth and efficient as in Sonar or Cubase SX, but the only way for me to find out is to give Buzz another spin, and I really hate having to learn new software almost on a daily basis between art, photography, music, writing, 3D, animation..etc, not to mention non-creative softwares for the PC.
How about this, I describe my workflow in Sonar and you tell me if Buzz can come close to it.
1) I usually just start out laying down some midi tracks with the Triton LE, or a few softsynths/samplers. The piano editor is very important to me, because I'm a visual guy and the way the piano roll works is just intuitive. I do my quatizing, transposing, velocity editing, expression editing..etc in the piano roll, then move on.
2) Sometimes I need to hear how a certain part sounds with effects--for example, the delay effect sometimes directly contributes to the composition. In that case, I'll convert the part into audio and apply realtime effects to it so I can hear how it sounds. I would archive the original midi track so I can free up CPU that don't need to be used.
3) I might swap out some sounds with other sounds. It's quite easy to do it in almost all sequencers--just change your outputs on the track.
4) In the track view I can move shit around, specify the snapping by timing..etc. In Sonar I can turn any audio or midi clip into a groove clip--which can be dragged out in either direction and will automatically loop. This is where Sonar really kicks ass. It's very convenient. I can drag out 12 measures from one groove clip, and still go into anywhere in the 12 measures and change anything I want.
5) Once the piece is ready for mixing, I just convert all midi tracks to audio, and start layering effects to each track. Sonar has a very flexible bussing system, and you can route stuff in anyway you want, create more sends, subgroups..etc. I can add realtime effects right on the track themselves without having to route anything, and I can turn on and off the realtime effects in the track view or console view. It's very convenient.
6) Once I have all tracks mixed, I just bounce them to one stereo master track--and I do the final mastering with mastering plugins (I've been using BBE Sonic Maximizer--and it's not as great as people claim. I always have to add an EQ in there to bring the mid's back because Sonic Maximizer tends to suck the mid's right out of the piece.). After that, just export as a mp3 and voila!
So, am I insane to hope that Buzz can match that kind of workflow? |

Wow, that was really kool. I am a big fan of it. I have no idea of how to do something like that, it was very neat. _________________ I will tell you how he lived. |
