A study of a piece by the frontier paintier Albert Bierstadt. There is an earlier version here that was heading for a better destination but I kinda lost track and ran out of time on this one.

ah yea you know I have a soft spot for Bierstadt he just made lovely works.
I really like both of these, good job there.
One thing that distracts a little and I'm not sure what the original looks like but that is those brown trees in the near middle. I know it is a study and such but I thought I could tell you anyway.
very nice and keep it up.

I think just about every grandma in the country has a huge Bierstadt print in her livingroom. In other words..I'm pretty sure I've seen this one before.
I like what you did to the colors.^^ _________________ www.gysthyu.com |

Perfect atmosphere of the picture . I really enjoy the lighting and colors here. Wish the picture could be little bigger
My only crit. that the trees on the right are extremely bigand are in the same line with the samller on the left and almost in same line with waterfall mountian on left. Or am I be wrong _________________ You must click here |

From what i can remember, it does look quite like the original. There's one hanging in the allergy clinic near here, check it everytime I go. The mood is very different in your version though, an interesting twist in its emotion. |

Ceenda, both are nice, but I personally like the earlier version better, more life in it. |

Cheers for the comments and crits guys.
There's a large version here:
http://www.flyingislands.co.uk/wip/bierstadt_study_large.jpg
Matthew: Thanks. Yep, I know what you mean, those should probably be a bit more detailed.
Anthony: Cheers.
Gyst Hyu: Haha, thanks. It's almost impossible to find Bierstadt prints in the UK. Most of the landscape stuff is either Turner or Constable over here.
tiger1313: Thankyou. There's a larger version linked at the top. I think I may have rushed some of the details and maybe caused some of the depth to be lost.
frantic: Thanks, it's all done in Photoshop using a selection of custom brushes.
The Insane Lemur: Danke mein Freund! (my German isn't too good, hopefully I haven't just insulted your mother or your prized BMW etc.)
-tai-: Cheers.
wassup: Yep, you're right. The earlier version was a bit more crisp and I think I'll go back to it and work on it from there. Thankyou. |

ceenda-i just got back from the museum of fine arts in boston, where i saw this painting for the first time.i was surprised at how small it is.anyway, your copy does capture the feeling of space that the original does.
yours is much cleaner,too |
