I'm using photoshop 7.0. Usually when I use the line tool, I click and pull out a line of my specified thickness. Something is very different now. I'm now getting something about a vector mask and linked shape. I'm pulling out rectangles instead of lines. What happened? Did I change some setting? If anyone can provide some help/an explanation, it would be much appreciated. _________________ Self-pity and modesty get you nowhere |

Hi,
I'm still figuring this out myself, but if you want to use the Rectangle Tool to draw a rectangle, or "line" of the desired thickness and have it filled with color, try this:
On the Options bar (top of the screen) reading from left to right, you'll see an icon with a drop down menu arrow just to the right of it. Then you'll see three icons. If you hold your cursor over them for a couple of seconds, their names will display: Shape Layers, Paths, and Fill Pixels.
Click the Fill Pixels icon (the third of the three named above).
Set the Foreground Color you want for Fill.
Choose the Rectangle Tool.
Click on the image and drag to make the rectangle, or "line".
Thanks for giving me an excuse to learn something more about Photoshop. Since Painter's my program of choice and that's where I spend most of my time, there's a lot for me to learn in Photoshop!
Hope this helps.

Ok, my problems are often the ones that have the simplest of answers. I just had to switch from shape layers to fill pixels. Hoo-ray for solutions. _________________ Self-pity and modesty get you nowhere |

If a problem like this happens again and you don't know what to do to fix it an easy way is to reset the tool. Select the tool, Right click on the picture on the top toolbar (under the |file|edit|image| toolbar) and click reset tool. |
