Hey guys. Well im in the process of purchasing a wacom tablet (I know there are a million of these threads, sorry bout that) but I cant decide which to buy. The 6x8 or the 9x12. Money isnt not really a problem but i'd rather get the 6x8 but I just wanted to have some info on the whole ratio thing. Is it hard to get used to the ratio on a 6x8 since its not really 1to1 correct? Im just about to click the purchase button for a platinum wacom 6x8 but just needed this info from you artists. I really appreciate it. Thanks alot!

This a good buy/price:?

and why is the PLATINUM cheaper than the regular intuos2?

Er, all the Wacoms are 3:4 ratio so don't worry about that. Any other technical questions you have are answered on the Wacom website.

Ummm...

You're talking about the actual SIZE of the tablet and that it's not the same size as your screen, right? Because any tablet is 4:3.

If so, I've heard from a lot of artists that 6x8 is the best size. I have a 6x8 intuos that has been in use 6 years. It still works flawlessly, although I've had to change the tip on the stylus a few times.

Just in case you didn't buy it just yet. Here's a much better price on the 6x8 Intuos2.

I have a 9x12 and it pisses me off. I don't have the deskspace for it and so it must rest in my lap and stuff. I have an older intous that is 6x8 and I like it lot better then my intous2 9x12 aside from the serial connection and power supply crap.

The tablet's surface area can be mapped proportional to the screen with the software that comes with the tablet. This makes anything that you would be drawing with the tablet appear preportionatly the same as on the computer.

For example, if you were to trace a square, it would be a square on the computer (in terms of pixels anyhow).

Drew --> not quite true; I saw this 12x12 wacom the other day. Its the only one that is 'square' however.

Cyanide --> Thanks, I'm actually thinking of getting a new tablet (that exact one too ^_^).

For me, the hardest part to get used to was looking and drawing in different places. Your eyes will be on the screen, your hands will be on the tablet, and that's what you will probably have to get used to most, not the proportion of the tablet to the monitor. (imho)

6x8 is the size I use as well, but Ryan Church has said that 9x12 is better for not straining the wrist, since you will use your arm more. I can't say much about that, but I have gotten a sore wrist after extended use of the tablet. (like say, 4-6 hours continuously)
