Here is the original unchanged oil paint, 3rd or 4th try in oils, I wish they didnt try until I told them to. Please give me tips and hints and tricks. (:

Hi Mitch,
I like this piece, but think it could be improved without a whole lot of pain. The lighting in the colour version has lost some of the vibrancy and boldness of the original, especially in the central figure. She is jostling for prominence with the others, when she should be more distinct than them. Painting them, or parts of them in deeper shadow might frame her better. Perhaps a stark spotlight with a narrow beam, centered on her could achieve this effect.
I would also establish a tighter colour palette. The flesh tones are great, and you've skillfully incorporated colours that don't immediately spring to mind, but I think the colours in other areas are a bit muddy. Perhaps the harsher light would sort this out.
I hope this was helpful, and not too condeceding.

Awesome. Thanks for the feedback, very helpful. I think I might try and do some depth of field blur out to the foreground and backround as well. I think I will try that light shaft idea too, that might give it some additional conceptual interest as well. THANKS! |

Just checked out your paintings on your site Pudn, very awesome, very inspirational. I like how all your stuff is all about paint. The warewolf one is my favorite, in case favorites matter. I really like the color use in the skin tones, and the desolate eery feeling you captured. Whats your fellings on the whole painter\pshop debate? I love pshop, but people keep telling me painter will give me superior results. I just cant get into it though. |

Hey Mitch,
glad you liked my pics. As for the Photoshop vs Painter debate, I really couldn't offer an opinion on the matter. A couple of the guys in the office are really into it, and insist that it wipes the floor with Photoshop.
All I know is, Photoshop hasn't let me down yet.
PS: I visited your site. You've got some really impressive pieces there. I'd really like to see bw6big.jpg (the knight and demon locked in combat) get the speedpaint treatment.
keep posting!
