Hello there,

Here's my initial effort to persuade my boss to set our next game in the era of Sinbad. Think Scheherazade, Ali Baba and all that. I started it last night, and don't want to apply another stroke until I get some feedback from you guys.

Can't see the woods for the trees. I can see Sinbad's limbs aren't right (he's the guy on the wheel), but beyond that, lighting, composition, posing, framing and pretty much everything else are eluding me.

Must buy a camera!!!!!

Feel free to overpaint, I'm going back to my bath chair for a quick cry.

Pud'

this is really cool, i like the colors and lighting. The only thing that I see is the hands (the one pointing and the one holding the bottle) seem a little off. I think the bottle hand is too big. Now that I look at it, the pointing hand might be on, just needs details I guess. The guy on the rail has too long of a torso, compared to his legs, I thinks. I also wonder if maybe your marks could be more direct, so one long stroke rather than 5 or 6 jagged ones. The only place I see that being a real problem is down his sword. Really cool, seems like you have a good grasp on color, like I dont.

omg my over-paint fingers started to itch and I had to make a try on your piece. I really like your sketch here but there were a thing that disturbed the perspective and that was that character holding the bottle.
I have had a lot of trouble with people when I had made over-paints for them, let me know if you hate this and I will remove it immediately.
ok enough rambling heres the over-paint, take what you want from it, might mention that I am not a pro and I am still learning so things might not be top notch in the over-paint.

btw I like your speedys in the speed-thread, nice works. Smile

I like the overpaint.
Guess the original version might work too though. Right now the blocky, brown areas distract a little.
They probably wouldn't look like that in the finished version!?

Maybe you should hide some things more. Everything seems to want attention right now.
Less value range in not so important areas should help.

And maybe the shapes of the two far guys are too similar.
At least it bothers me a little.

Matthew: if you are talking about me ... I think I explained what bothered me.
Did you read that?
Whatever ... rock on

Andy, yea I read it, were cool. Not sure why I keep mentioning it but your situtation wasnt the only one though, there were 5 more I guess and some comments in some pms regarding over-paints. Not necessary to keep mentioning it though so I will leave it alone after this.
thx regarding the over-paint there. Smile

keep it up Andy

Matthew,

I wouldn't dream of asking you to remove your picture. I invited people to paint their own interpretation, and if the results aren't to my liking, tough shit.

But your version was good, and sparked off some ideas. I'm glad a prolific artist I respect had a go, and I hope you enjoyed painting it.

Thanks for the comments from Andy, Mitch and yourself.
