This is the version 3 which is final and most detailet. Scroll down for not-so-detailet versions.

And the slightly more earlier versions:

Amazing! I love all the versions.
The only thing that bothers me is that it's so hard to read the font.

wow.. I really like the picture whatever it is..
don't see why the band don't like it..
maybe because their band name isn't that easy to read at first sight.
have you tried to modify that?
I bet a good exposition of the band name could solve their insatisfaction, if that was the prob.

-cheers

Oh, I quess this needs to be mentioned also.
The band logo you see there is a fake one. I removed the original band logo after they informed me that they didnt want the pic. So I made a quick replacement. It says Grotto Art which is my personal art sites title. Smile

I quess its a bit hard to read but its not so relevant matter in this pic. Actually I didnt even make a note of the logo. Whoops... Smile

First, before i give anything useless comment about artwork, can you tell bit more what was your task. Was there any design guidelines, what kind of music band plays, was it for cd-sleeve or what?

Can't really tell any reason, but no.2 looks best for my eye.

Typography: is that text same as meant to be in the final? I don't like font at all and perspective tilt makes it 1)unreadable 2)ugly. There is no sensible focal point anywhere. Starting-out-band need band's name to be put out clearly and so it can be understanded. Artists who are so big names like the beatles don't need text at all. Everybody knows them.

Art: Feels like it is made for backround, not to stand out itself so the typography would make the contrast with the art. Art itself isn't really interesting. Ok. its something surreal, what?

You have obviously printed it and tried in cd-cover. What it looked like? I don't like the balancing. There is little white all around and more in the lower edge has more. Dark artwork is heavy and needs something to balance the picture. Good set of typography could balance it nicely.

Sure, the band didnt have anything special to tell about. No clear visions of their own. Sure after this first suggestion for the cover, it was easier to them to tell me what exactly they DO want. The band plays metal. I dont know exactly what sort of metal since I didnt get any audio material to inspire or to get me the picture.

Yup, I mentioned in my earlier post about this. This is just a replacement logo. I didnt focus on that much after I finished the pic for my own purposes. Well, I must say that unreadable metal band logos arent THAT unusual anyway. Oh well, I wouldnt be satisfied about that logo IF it would be the best i could do.

Maybe you dont understand surrealism....

Nope. No need to. At least yet.

It would look great of course. Couldnd agree more with the typography though.

I'm sorry to fuck up with your pic, but gotta do it. Good that you posted process pics. At stage 2 it was most powerful. Power, strength thats what metal bands are or want to be?!?

Rotating didn't do good to it and propably got too much smudged. How much you though how it would match with the band's logo? And when we add white borders it loses strength again... Final image would have needed contrast between textured and not so textured parts as with crisp and smooth as photo refs have.

Even we have wonderful artwork, it is merely a tool to promote the band. It is not showcasing your work. It is selling the band.

I'm sorry if i'm harsh.. it's reality baby!
