Hi folks!
Typically, when I've finished my tutorial, half of my internet space disappears and I cannot upload pics, fortiunatelly Drunken Muse helped me with the hosting!! yay thank you Jocke!
Ok, I know this might not be what you want from me tutorial wise, and I havent written anything, I just happen to save the steps.
anyway, this is a Bf 109 german WWII fighter for those who dont recognize it, I was inspired by the paintings on the boxes of scale plastic models.

That's a killer view Capt. and your choice of the spiral propeller hub makes for an eye catcher, although I'm not sure what the visual effect of it spinning would be. Hmmm, maybe we need a physisist on this one.
My only major crit would be that everything seems a bit static. It's only my opinion of course, as I don't know what you are wanting to achieve but some more 'action' would be neat. Also what if the guy behind him was the enemy and he had tracers whipping by him?
Cheers. |

siry didnt se Harris reply!
yeah it aint got ,1% of the action in your plane pics, actually I've seen pictures and movies of spiral hubs and they are very sharp and not moblurred at all, actually when I made a radial blur on it it didnt look any different ahaha
I've thought about the enemy tingy, bt I thought it was such an usual picture and I wanted the brutal look of the Bf109 and spooky pilot to be there so a spit behind it would make the 109 look bad and the pilot would have to have a scared look on his face, but hey ther's another imag, think I'll paint a version some day?
basically what I wanted to acieve was the same style as on the paintings of modle plane boxes, I dunno if I got it right though
thanx for your tips and crits!
Cheers!

at first it scared me -- way too close to my face. love it how there are no bullets, blood, burning planes and all that cliche that always follows these images.
Great work! _________________ Chaplin |

Wow!!!! That is excelent!!
I dont know if you want any C&C, but two things are bothering me with the front plane's prop. Which way are the blade's turning? The blur in both directions. Also the cool little spiral thing dosent look like its moving!?!?
Or am I just on crack? Its possible. _________________

I dotn know about the spiral, but the blades would be blurred in both directions at that speed, actually probably a whole lot more blurred, would have to have a look. Not sure about the spiral though~!
EDIT: I'm having ago at this now - how tf did you get such a nice circle for the nose? - selection tool? looks like you just drew it
double edit: ignore that circle question ... doh! |

The Real Mark:
the circle is just a selection with the Elliptical Marquee Tool
just search google for Bf 109 and look at the props. there are many types of blur depending of what camera you use, just as there are different ways to paint motion blur too!
If you just think about the spiral, there's white and black, the black spiral is painted so when in motion the spiral just runs into itself, creating no or very little mo-blur, cause its spinning round itself, if it would go from side to side it would create a mo-blur, but it turns, and, I dont think they would paint spirals on the nosecones if they wouldnt be visible, they put them there for a purpose, it's the classic hypnotic thing you se in cartoons! |

Hey, I found this painting by Mark Postlethwaite on the net this morning. I know it's not head on but it may give something to the 'spiral discussion'. Hope this works.

hey
Nice stuff indeed this one. I think I have seen this kind of spiral painted on the back on some aeorplanes aswell.
I was thinking Kapten.Flush, I dont know if you have posted one earlier in the days but I would really like to see a robot tutorial from you, that would be awesome. What do you think?
ok see you and keep it up Kapten.
