I've noticed many professional texture artists use Deep Paint 3D or Painter 3D when doing textures for models such as Shane Caudle who made the skins for Unreal Tournament. I just dont understand its true purpouse though, i feel very awkward drawing directly on the model and i cant really do anything right with my mouse on it.. Can anyone tell me its true purpouse? is it just to position things correctly? or to actually really draw upon it and make something really nice.. |

Me, I'm guessing it's good for making a rough block of where things are going to be.

Know, I used a demo of something or other once, and It was really cool some of the stuff you could do on there. It is easier, IMO to make the model, then open up a 3dpainter prog and paint directly onto it than having to go into photoshop and paint on a 2d thing... export it or whatnot, put and then put it on the model... it saves time is probably the bottom line. Plus the probably use a tablet for it |

It saves a ton of time. Getting a map right where you want it with U V mapping takes a lot of time. Painting directly on the model really lets you know how something is going to look.
