Im really debating with myself wether or not to buy a tablet (which are pretty expensive). I've been practacing for quite a while using a mouse to draw and i really dont have any good expierence with drawing with a pencil, let alone a tablet. Would it be worht my money for a tablet if i really dont have much expierence drawing with one.. how hard would it be for me to adapt to it. |

Well, question number one: do you feel that the mouse is not good enough? Does it hinder your work?
Question 2: what kind of stuff do you do? I would really recommend just drawing a lot with a pen and pencil before buying a tablet if you're not too good at drawing. Try other media too, there's not need to restrict yourself to just GFX. Besides, if you're going to be 'painting' in PS or whatever you're using (As opposed to using clean shapes, paths and filters etc.), traditional skills are a big help. Though lately I've been noticing that it's easier for me to paint in PS, since it's so forgiving... I guess I need to find something to make acrylics dry up quicker so I can transfer my methods to that medium.
Overall, I think if you like to draw, you're going to be very happy with a tablet. There's no need to go and buy an A4 Intuos or whatnot, a Wacom Penpartner will probably serve you well.

Well, i feel the mouse is limiting my ability, a tablet can obviously do much more than just using a mouse. But i am not too good at drawing with a pencil, but i feel maybe if i gave a tablet a try i would somehow be accustomed to it.. and usually when i do art with my mouse i start out just with color blobs and not a sketch, and then add highlights etc.
BTW i'm doing skinning for 3D Games such as Quake 3 Arena (for myself, not anyone else) |

Well phire, if you want to become like a skinner or something like that, then I would go for a tablet, if you have the money to spend that is.
If you just do it for fun and you are rolling in the dough, then bye all means shoot for the stars... heh.... But if you are not really serious about doing it... I wouldn't do it. But if you still want a tablet, go to buy.com and look for a 4x5 or whatever... It is pretty small but hell, it will help you in skinning. |
