Ok, I got a while ago a Hercules Geforce 3D Prophet SE. It works fine on win 98, but it won't work on win 2000... (I get the "default" vga setting with 16 colors, and I get a ! in the device manager with the device unable to innitialize)
What I've tried: Any official or beta drivers from hercules for win 2000(v5.22) and nt4, as well as various detonator drivers. (Many times each, all with full removal and restart before reinstalling new drivers)
I tried the tech support from hercules, but no reply...
I'm open to any ideas before I break it!
(also anyone knows any good forums for this?) |

them cheap end geforce cards stink in general. you get stuff like this.
in fact the only "non-pure" geforce 2 based card i've seen so far is Elsa Gloria II Quatro (or whatever) (which i have in my work pc's)
costs something over $1000 (us dollars) ..but still.
it works like a dream. the only downside to it is that with 3d studio viz r3 doesn't like resolutions over 1600x1200 (and 16 bit, for which it is ment for to begin with) thus the gloria chokes to it with higher resolutions, you get like 0.5 second lag to menu openings and whatnot :\
i think one's still better off with a standalone 2d card with a standalone geforce2.
*shrug*
nvidia stinx. old geforce beta's blow up pretty beautifully

Do you have an Athlon board? or does VIA make the chipset to your motherboard.
If so then go to TomsHardware.com and do a search for:
VIAAGP.sys
This file might help you, depending on which motherboard you have.
