Updated at bottom -->
Hey guys, this is my first foray into architectural rendering, and I'd like some feedback on it so far. Haven't done the roof yet by the way. Thanks!

Painted over a photo I took of Miami(the central complex is the one I added):

Here's just the building part by itself(I painted the surroundings on a different section):

looks pretty seemless the only thing that makes me feel like part of it doesn't belong is the roof for some reason. besides that eccellent job and very interesting architecture, what program(s) did you use?

I agree with Adam. First off, I think it's very good - there's just something about the roof. Maybe breaking it up a bit. Perhaps a couple of ac units, or venting systems? I don't know-it's a tough call because it's the kind of modern architecture that should show off its solid simplicity. Good work, there's jusat something about the roof......can't quite figure it out.......

Well, he did say he wasn't done with the roof yet. Wink

I think this is, overall, quite a phenominal job. Going into the Matte Painting biz? Wink

But I do see a few things that are a bit off...mainly in the perspective...the viewer is about eye level with the roof, or maybe one of the top floors. So it might make sense for that level to appear "flat." But as you go farther down the building, I don't get a sense that the building is round. Hmm...I'm not explaining that very well...basically, it appears the lines defining each floor are made up of straight lines, when in fact as you get closer to the bottom, they should probably begin to show more of a curve due to the viewer looking down on them more. I think that's my main complaint with it so far.

Also, just in terms of composition, I'd remove that tiny top of a building you can see poking up over the left side of the building. It's breaks up the line of the roof in a way that's not really necessary. I realize it's in the original shot, but it just kinda plays havoc with that side of the roof.

But I love the reflections and the added shadow.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments! I agree with all the crits, and I'm working to rectify the situation! I'm glad you like it. Here's the current revision, what do you think? Thanks!

This is pretty good.

THe only things are that the big black line on the roof is making it look more fake. That would have to be a HUGE element of your structure to be that big. Making like 10 feet or more.

The satellite is probably too big too. Like 200-300 feet. I guess it could be that big.

Here is a "paint over" over I did. I just wanted really to see what I could do with it:

http://light1.home.mindspring.com/copies/paint_overs/city_over.jpg
http://light1.home.mindspring.com/copies/paint_overs/city2.jpg
http://light1.home.mindspring.com/copies/paint_overs/city3.jpg

Here is what I did:

Made circle in photoshop using transform tools to mostly hide the rim of your building

Copy, pasted satellite to make some smaller ones

Used clone stamp to make roof more interesting

Lightened dark half of building, shadows, and glass serpately

Tried to make more clouds to balance composition but didnt finish them

Added light scaffolding around satellite
----

I like this pretty good.

I'd probably also reduce the size of that main satellite dish, and make some more satlites to overlap (and not look silly like mine).

...
I'm sure your look much better then this when finished.

I just added new version with glass dome. I thought some seashell -type shapes would look good on that building. Maybe add some sails to it..

Just updated again with added perspective for building and just played around with it. That is city 3 and is last one. I was just playing around with that one.

it has to be tilted... if u line it up with other buildings (even though its round and has no edges) and put into perspective... you would not be able to see that top of that building but just the line of the top going at a straight edge to the other point of the building... unLESS it were tilted toward the viewer a little bit Razz
this is because of where it is in accordance to the horizon and where the shot was taken... check out the other buildings... but i think he meant for it to be tilted anyways.
Looked seemless more when it didn't have everything on the roof... those satellites look kinda biggish too :p im just being critical though.
GJ... looks really good Smile
err it's 5:00am im going to sleep gnite :p

Hey guys! Thanks a billion for the great critiques and comments. Especially Light, your overpaints made me look at it differently, so thanks. Time is forcing me to stick a fork in this one, at least for now. Oh, and I am doing matte painting on an independent film at the moment, so I'm learning more and more about it. Anyone want to give me some tips on that? Hehe Razz
