This is a small project a group of us got together and created. It was done in about 4 weeks using Maya 4.5, Shake, Photoshop, Deep Paint 3D, Max 5 and Motion Builder.

The purpose of this project was to create a highly realistic battle scene for training/R&D purposes and also to be used as a 'pitch' towards a future project we were biding on.

* i was responsible for:
art direction/concept art/directing/modeling/texturing/lighting

comments/questions/feedback?

thanks,

-cg

Shocked

gaaahhhwwkk......well......what can I say? Impressive.
No crits except for the fact that the tracers look like lasers, and it's a little unclear what type of weapon it's supposed to be. But that's when being picky you understand Wink

GREAT!

Would it be ok to mail you technical questions?

Well, it is really nice but I am afraid Chad that your Concept Art are just 4 frames from the film "Enemy at the Gates". It is the first battle scene when the russian brats attack a well defended line of german soldiers.

Am I wrong?

Anyways, it looks like it has been a hard work, and the final result is really nice.

I can't say anything negative about it - the technique and all, as it's pretty darm awesome; however, I am not entirely clear on the continuity of the frames (if storyboard paneling is the motifvation here); it doesn't seem clear to me what's going on.

oh my...

fucking cool, nice concepts drawings too, i would do this sorta thing if i had the skills too
i do agree the tracers look more like lasers, reminds me of the fight scene in AOTC Smile, with all those energy beams flying through dust and smoke
i do think they're energy based weapons in that video
i also like the touch of that plane falling from the sky

man, im looking forward to future productions, keep up the good work

btw tayete, those are not from enemy at the gates, maybe he got inspired by it, but it's definitely not from the movie, first thing you notice is the helmets and weapons, it's different from the film

No, Godwin, I don't mean the post here, I mean the Concept at the website where they show all the makeof of the battle. The first page are four pics that are clearly taken from "Enemy at the Gates".

You can see there German helmets, a Panzer III firing, a MG42 machine gun in action, MP40 submachine guns, etc...

I was reviewing the DVD yesterday, and yes, definetely they are taken from there. And I am not saying it is bad, in fact those concept pics are really good! I am just saying that it is strange to base your concept of your own idea in exact copies of others' ideas, but every art director is free to make what he wishes, as Chad did. Obviously the result is completely new and those were just the first steps...
