This Pic is the best drawing i have EVERRR seen. I love it so much! (and maybe this one and this one and ...

Where can find more drawings like this by any artist?
that ones a spooge demon but I want MmOO00RE than he's uploaded to his site! Anyone know any other artists that have produced drawings like this? Sargents charcoal portraits are wonderful but I can never find any place where any of those older pictures are avaible at high quality and large sizes as they are with so many of today's artistes'/illustrators'/doodleers' sites.

feedback would be appreciated. Cool

Fred, glad you like them! Those are a fellow named Doug Spaeth, very nice guy. You would think he is American by talking to him but he grew up in the south of France. There are many people with interesting backgrounds here. I'm from Ohio!

His head is very short and wide, difficult to make look right.

I would look up Kevin Chen's stuff over at conceptart.org, his drawings are much better than mine. I am trying to combine line and tone in my own way, and Kevin has done this well. He has combined the best of the Fred Fixler shape/value style with the structure/volume of the animation renaissance master way of thought (Glenn Vilppu). There is nobody better at the academics out there that I know of right now than Kevin.

And I remember someone was telling me, maybe Kevin wrote this himself, that he felt his composition was weak. I have only seen one "composition" of his, something he did for medal of honor, I think, with some guy holding another guy. It was very nice and very sophisticated. To me it was way beyond the illustrative intoxication with exaggeration and diagonals, it was very flat (a good thing) and subtle. Once again he has synthesized a variety of influences successfully. But this time he has brought a more 20th century feeling into it which I think is really cool.

So go look at Kevins stuff, or Sargents, not mine. I really am struggling with it. In 20 years, maybe.

You're talking about the Sargent anatomy sketches at Fineart.sk?
I think the quality is good enough if you want to enjoy them rather than copy them.

Conceptart is the perfect place to look for drawings.

I don't know how active you are there. I guess you know the interesting threads already.

Do you like these drawings too or isn't that the style you are looking for?

I'm not sure what you are looking for exactly. I guess pencil renderings like that are not sketchy enough?

Thanks for ur replies, guys.

yeah that stuff over at conceptart.org, kevin chen, he's amazing, trully. I've looked thru about 15 pages of his sketches and it's all amazing. Thanks for the link.

Unfortuately, and it's only a small 'unfortunately', all of his images are created for instructional purposes it seems, and unsurprisingly too. but I'm sure a little more looking will bring me to sketches of his which are presented as works of art, now i'm just being picky. But I suppose I can afford to be picky since I've got spooge's pencils to gawp at aswell Smile

Thanks again for that name, kevin chen.
For now tho, lets all enjoy this wonder some more Very Happy :

(if you don't want me linking to this artwork on your site, i'll remove it.)

Is Doug Spaeth related to Verna and Big John Spaeth?

Ask. I must know.
