I've done it with the software that came with my scanner, not as good as it may be with photoshop but still. So what do you think about the general looking of the picture?

Ok now I can see it!
Well the base colors (is this the right word?) are ok ... exept for the black background.
I think a dark color different from black would push the dinosaur out more.

All the low opacity brushstrokes don't make any sense. The way you work is ok, but ask yourself where the lightsource is.
Seperate light and shadow ... and define the forms better.
It's way too messy right now.
