hey guys... these pictures are not very recent, i did them about 8 months ago i think. finally got around to scanning them in, so i figured i'd show them off. when i did these i was experimenting with trying to put a story or setting behind my pictures... what resulted is a whole lot of information to go with the sketches... i'll try to explain.
the setting in the two pictures in the same place. it's a planet that is much smaller than earth, so i has a lot less gravity. because of this, things like mushrooms flurish. also, the entire planet is teaming with life- there is more living creatures than there is inatimate objects. the setting in both of these pictures are on the plains of the planet. the plains themselves are living things. they are coated with large hair-like pillars which create webs that trap and eat swarms of bugs (think of them like plankton). since the plains are alive, the hills are constantly moving and changing very slowly.
the first sketch depicts what i call an "undead plant". these are enormous cactus-like plants, which when dead are infested with millions of tiny bugs who bring the plant's carcass to life and walk around. the native people of this land have learned to tame these beasts, and use them like elephants or horses.
the creatures in the second drawing are very territorial. they stick to close family groups, and are in constant war with eachother over the plain shrooms, which are thier main food source. different family groups have different patterns on thier backs, and male and female's have different horn types.
if anyone feels like coloring these, be my guest. any comments or crits are appretiated. thanks _________________ check out my webpage @ http://www.evanart.com/ |

Very nice pix although in the 2nd pix, the creatures seem to be playing around rather than fighting with each other. And they look really peaceful instead of being angry/pissed with each other. |
