I've been having trouble coloring this goblin drawing in painter 7, and I thought about looking up some tutorials, but then i thought why not go directly to people with experience to help? That's where you guys come in, PLease find it in your talented hearts to help an artist in formation.
If the images don't work use these links.

You've got it backwards there, mate. Use the Ultra-Handy Sijun Search to find past threads that can help. Learn what you can, apply it, and *then* ask us to critique your work. It's easier for you to look it up once than for us to explain it 4000 times. |

Hm. That's a strange attitude drew. V. strange.
Anway, dude, you colouring seems pretty cool to me.
Yu could always try using less black, or you could try a more 'blocky' style of rendering with more blocks of colour and 'flat' areas. Or experiment with a wider range of hues...?
Up to you to enjoy mucking about with. That's the fun of being a 'developing artist' IMHO. Y'konw: trying a million diffeerent things and chooseing which is your favorite or which is best or whatever. Helps one find one's own way of wokring and to develop as your own.
IMO I think a simple cahnge of background colour (darker) would help if not something more for the background (gradient/general colour shift/arbitrary shapes/(horizon/)whatever). Perhaps just try to be more certain about the location and nautre of your light source and keep that light source in mind all while you're colouring the head and use the light source to help you choose a background colour or colours of a vague setting.
You should really just muck about for yourself. It's more fun than being passive about it, but while you are, , those are my opinions. |

Thank you capt.Fred. I'l add a background and a few blocks of coloring and try to tone down the black a bit.
You know it's people like you that make BBS's so helpful. |

Well, I'm no expert so I might not be a good guy to listen to but I think it would need little more different colors than just green and yellow.. One other thing is that maybe you could use little lighter colors than pure black and ad some white highlights. I used your sketch to show what I mean. If you don't like that I used your pic then tell me so I'll remove it.
Darn nice sketch by the way [/img] |

Thank you, Double A, I'll try that and as for your picture, I can't see it. My school has that site blocked for some reason (Although I remember watching some porn on a site with a similar name), but I'm pretty sure it's better than mine. |

Hey, nothing even remotely pr0nish about Saunalahti! It's just your average internet provider company thing. I have never used Painter, so I don't really know what's possible with that program. But I do have one suggestion: You could try drawing on another background color than white. Add a thin layer of cream or dark green or blue or whatever and work on top of that. It doesn't have to show in the end, but that way, you can get a better grasp of the lighting and contrasts and the relationship between the different areas of color.. _________________ More art |
