These pictures were made because I am angry that a noise is going on while I am trying to sleep. They're supposed to be self-portraits (complete with my snappy new hairdo), but the resemblance is stronger on some than others. But I didn't worry that much about technical stuff. This was more...anger management.
There's a reason they're all in the correct proportions for wallpapers...they will be downloads for a new site which I am working on but which probably won't be ready for ages because I have too much real work to do.

hey socar, long time no talk!
I like the concept and the story. hehe very cool. The first few are great, except the last 2 i believe are lacking expression. I guess right now you're conveying a more of -- a i'm tired, the noise is irritating me, but im too tired to get mad ....about it look.
Haha very cool =D _________________ AIM: EviLToYLeT |

Hey, Toylet!
Sadly, your assessment of the last two ain't too far from the truth. I'm ready to drop here, but...that daaaaaang noise...arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh. It's like...you glare and beetle your brows for a while, but as your annoyance level goes up, your capacity for theatrics goes down, and then you're all "omg, just make it staaawwwwwp...pleeeeeeeease", melting in a gooey puddle of unsatisfied HATE, with that NOISE up in your EARS at every MOMENT, just GOING and GOING and...
...oh, sorry. You got me going there, for a moment. You're right, though. I kinda did the expressions as my mood progressed, but I'd planned the text beforehand, so it doesn't entirely match all the way through. Bugger. _________________ Dignity isn't important. It's everything.

Matthew - Thanks! No, it's not tinnitus. The offending noise is decidedly external in source. _________________ Dignity isn't important. It's everything.

Oh man. That is probably the only thing that could make me kill. Having some dope playing music "to sleep by" in the apartment above me and I can just barely hear it. I finally got her to turn it down a bit, but only after her telling me, it couldnt possibly be her its on so low. Having good hearing is a curse
The new hair is nice. I cruised your site and found the bad hair, the less said the better
I'd like to see a rat who is distressed with too much noise, love those rats!

Great work! HA!
I'd like to see that mouth open, seemws like having the mouth closed all the time gets in the way of the extremeness of experessions.

very cool.
interesting idea, and your style adds to it perfectly.
i've always liked your pictures, but it's the more loose ones that really catch me. great expression, on each of them.
i'd like to add something more to express how much i like those paintings, but i can't think of anything more elaborate than "i love them".
gah, english ..... foreign language .... grah. _________________

Hey, thanks--I'm really blown away by such an enthusiastic response to my cartoons! I couldn't sleep so I also put up part of the site I was mentioning earlier: http://www.bitingrat.com/ . I've got some extra webspace, so I'm putting up a sort of...online dustbin...with sketches and assorted rubbish. Haven't got everything on there I'm scheming to stick up, but that'll have to wait till I have more time. But the wallpapers of these are up, if anyone wants my ugly mug on their desktop.
Anyhoo.
William Willette - Hehe, thanks! There is a reference photo linked to just under the images--I didn't want to make the dl any bigger for people who didn't feel like seeing something that's not a drawing. I'm not actually THAT young, though. I'm 28.
merlyns - Thank you! Hahaha, I'll have to wear the cock shirt more often.
gogan - Hey, thanks! I appreciate the compliment!
haohmaru - Thank you--glad you like my cartoons/sketches! This style is not familiar to me with digital media. It feels weird to do pen-and-ink type strokes and lineart in Photoshop. But it's fun anyway.
CaptFred - That's a good idea--next time I am sketching I'll have to do some mouth open ones. I hate drawing tongues, though...they're so manky.
Tzan - Yeah, no kidding. Any noise is too much noise when you're trying to doze off. And, yah. My old hair was the worst. I couldn't even bring myself to draw THAT. I will have to sketch up some ratties soon...rats rule. _________________ Dignity isn't important. It's everything.

nice pics .. it was at thursday night? it is strange.. usually at friday people are making much noise
someone said that the last pics need more expressions.. I dont agree and think these are good.. it depends that her personality is such.. it is not easy to find or make "light" expressions in eyes, mouth _________________ out |

I'm pretty sure she is a pirate. Why else would she be wearing a puffy shirt to bed? |

UkiTakuMuki - Haha, I don't do this kind of thing that often, especially digitally. Glad you like it, though!
Tomasis - Friday night, actually. I THINK it was Friday, anyway. It ought to have been Friday, because it was definitely a Friday type of noise. Glad you like the expressions, though! It's true that my face in real life doesn't make much more dramatic expressions than these, even if I'm very angry. But I think with cartoons like these, maybe one has to be less subtle about it, or the point gets lost. I mean, you have to get the idea across right away, sort of thing, since there isn't much detail and the eye will go to the next frame instead of lingering to read subtle details, right? (Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that sounds about right.)
Sup_Ben - Thank you very much!
the_insider - Man, ANOTHER person who thought I was male? Arrrrrrgh! Glad you like the pics, though!
Hase - Thank you! And, no, I don't even own a puffy shirt in real life. But I like to draw them. I was actually wearing my nightgown at the time, but it was more boring, so I didn't draw it.
Tzan - Now, there's a theory I like! I have to do a pirate self-portrait some time...complete with a sword and a big ship.
Tomasis - Haha...y'all just WISH. _________________ Dignity isn't important. It's everything.

hehe I am just getting more and more curious what the disturbance source can be.
btw, your sketch site is very cool especially with the usage of the brown color scheme.

It's nice to see some looser work from you Socar. You generally post these immense and elaborate pieces... Not often we get to see sketches. These are nice.
I'm wondering if the narrative would be as clear without the text? Did you think about trying a textless version?
Re: theatrics. Your reply to EvilToylet reminded me of Ren and Stimpy. I think it was the "don't pee on the electic fence" episode where you just watch in awe as Ren gets more and more angry. Finally, you say to yourself "there's no possible way for him to get (drawn) more angry". His snarling mouth is literally curled all the way around his head, and his eyes are bugging slits. Then: "Holy crap!" as Ren goes all the way past eleven and of the dial with rage. I remember rewinding those shots over and over. The secret was just as you describe: he got soo bloody angry that he went full circle all the way back to calm again. Calm... but with twitches. It was the twitches that were the magic.
