Hi All. This is my first attempt at using my relatively new Painter 7. I experimented with some new brushes and such, and I like the program. I had been using painter classic. I would have waited if they had said Corel was coming out with a new version, but oh well. I'm no where near professional anyway.
This is an attempt to paint a picture with a lot of shadows. I suck at it, as you can see, but this is a decent attempt compared to my past tries. At any rate, her left arm appears too small, but I believe the problem is not size, but a failure in my attempt to foreshorten it. Any tips? I painted that arm several different ways, but this was the best try.
I'd also appreciate any other crits. I'm pleased with parts of this.
Here is the reference, which is a low quality pic I took at a concert.

Actually, I think her left arm is just fine, it's her right arm that's too big. Basically, it looks like the classic foreshortening mistake on the right arm, where instead of making it foreshortened, your mind tricks you into drawing a straightened out form instead of a foreshortened one.
A quick way to see is to note the distance between the belt and the bottom of her right elbow. You'll see that you placed the elbow much too low. |

By golly, I think you're right. I was thinking that her right arm was okay, but I didn't really look at the picture because I was so worried about the left. I put my elbow down and it hit at my hip, but I didn't take into account that she's holding up the mic to her face. It's nice to have someone else to look at a pic, especially when I missed the obvious. Thanks. _________________ Alice
