nice, nice indeed. You might want to block in the entire thing first instead of rendering certain parts right away, but I guess since the painting you're using for reference already has its main values and shadws down thats not necessary. _________________ aliensamurai.deviantart.com |

That's really nice, and quite convenient now that Matthew has started a horse thread. Seriously though, nice work. I really like the shaul/blanket around him. Great folds. _________________ Put a muzzle on her Turkish, before she gets bit. You don't wanna get bit, do you boy? |

COOL~ the dynamics are awesome! i love that cape flinging thing <-sucka for capes and flowing fabric the strokes are great and so are the colours :>
hehe
i cant wait to see it finished.. i shortcut this to my desktop, so u better finish it lol
wonderful painting.. i cant crit on any technicality cause i myself am a shitty painter. (im relearning foundation though... hope to improve )
PS: may i know why u added green and purple to the back? did u mix those colours in? or what are they for? thats one thing that always baffles me.. why do alot of great artist add 'unncessary' colour to the back of the paintings? im SURE theyre not swatches... for 'feel'? eh?! |

Capt. Fred: Thanks for the kind words
UkiTakuMuki: I will finish it eventually sorry for the progress gap but UI have not been around for the last week . Since this is a master copy I really can't take any credit for the colors and dynamics :/ you just have to look at the original to see how much better the original David was .
http://virtualart.admin.tomsk.ru/jdavid/p-jdavid24.htm. Hoprfully you can see wht the green is now. The purple was a mistake as I got the wrong color and the blue will be the eventual color of the background . There are often lots of reasons experianced artists put strange colors in their back grounds. Once is balance. It is a hard thing to explain but if you look at atrists like mondren you will see how he used blocks of color to balance creat balanced paintings. If you look at his paintings your eye will not concentrat in one part of the painting but as it is balanced your eyes will see all of the painting. Very bad explainantion sorry. If you look at thouse colors you will find they arn't so random either. Generall they are colors that are used in the object of interest. If you use colors in your background that arn't in you object of interest you will find the object of interest looks stuck on .
Sorry I have been away for a week. I have been working on this after work but I will have a wole day to work on this tommorow so I may well get it finished . Well fingers crossed anyway.
I recently noticed that I managed to get all of the colors wrong as the room I am working it is very dark so I am finding it hard to see the reference pic. This means I am painting the whole thing a ot darker than the orginal and losing a lot of the subtalty. I had a really big shock when I saw the original in sun light there is so much more depth in the real pic :/.

really nice image.
I recommend painting on a more naturel colored canvas.
I like it very much I'm looking forward to the end result.

merlyns: Thanks for the comments. I am never sure what color to paint on It doesn't seem to make so much difference what I use but I will certainly give it another go.
Max Kulich: Thanks and one rough background for you
I didn't do so much tonight other than quickly rough in the back ground. I will go over and tighten it up tommorrow. It could take a while :/.
