I'm trying to send audio over my phone line. I have a nice Radio Shack device that works well with the output from a tape cassette player, but when I connect it to my computer audio output, there is a huge buzz along with the sound. Anyone have any idea how to make an audio connection between a computer sound card output and the phone lines (USA)? _________________ HonePie.com

Computer audio outputs are notorious for being noisy and poorly grounded. I would try running the computer from a different wall outlet. Does the adapter you're using have a volume control on it? If so, turn the volume of your computer up, and the volume on the adapter down. That would give you a better signal/noise ratio.
The only other option I can think of that wouldn't involve some serious electrical tinkering (running grounding wires and such), would be to pick up a USB audio output. They're basically a software-driven outboard sound card . . . their advantage is that they're electrically isolated from the noise of the computer by virtue of their USB connection. Those aren't exactly cheap though . . . $80-150 last time I checked. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

ballistic... Tried the USB connected output, but still got the buzzzz...
Grounding wires??? Do you mean simply grounding the computer's chassis to a radiator pipe or something similar? _________________ HonePie.com

Yeah, grounding the chassis might help . . . though if it's still noisy out of the USB . . . hmm . . , that sounds almost like it would be an issue with drivers or the sound card/chip itself. Weird. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |
