I like this - it has great personality to it.
My only critiques (and take them for what they are worth) are:
I'm not sure that I like that she's transparent... make her more prominent in the image and it might pop off the screen better.
Also, maybe add a tiny bit more contrast to the pic.. more brights/darks.
*shrug* It just seems kinda 'flat' to me right now.
compositionally though - it's great.
I could see this as a cd cover or something.

This probably isn't much help, but I completely agree with 4nton. It was the same thing I said to myself when I first saw it. Great peace though. Good Job.

personally id make the girl much smaller and make the piece more narrow. when i think of modern cities i think of tall narrow skyscrapers.
and that text is a good focal point but it doesnt work astetically for the piece. i think it directs attention away from the whole and distracts eye flow. and you could use other elements that can suggest "africa" without actually writing it across the work.

research symbols, colours and other stuff that refers to africa and you could probably get rid of that text. plus the typography could have been better. that font makes it lok like africa is grungy maybe dirty.

dunno...im just ranting like any graphic designer does...

but i like the mood the image portrays.
