a lot of you guys here are on EatPoo as well, so you probably seen this post already.
as with all my color works, i just dont see what exactly am i doing wrong... this particular one is a second try at coloring that linework, and i had to adjust it in phtoshop in order to bring out some of the contrast and shadows, since i feel it looks flat in the first version, but now i think its a little bit too much... i have a few great books on painting "How to Paint Like the Old Master", and the newest one "Digital Character Design and Painting"... they help a little bit, but i still dont get it i dont understand which colors to use for shadows... if i try darker version of what i use for skin, then i get a brown which doesnt really fit as a shadow color, if i try to mix in a little bit of other colors, well lets just say it doesnt really work out that well. *sigh* alos the edges... so far this piece looks recognizable due to me keeping the sketch lines over the painted areas...however if i get rid of those, its all muddy and ugly looking, if i try to trace over the lines of a sketch with a brush tool, im either getting the same result as with sketch lines, or something even worse than what it is without sketch lines.
i've read a couple of tutorials posted on the art forum, but im still not getting even a little bit closer to the results that i want. and i dont really know if just practicing will help me out... any advices and help on painting will be greatly apreciated.

actually I think your third colored picture looks excellent for the most part - and as shown in the right picture that AndyT painted over.. I think what you need to do is just go softer with the shading.. I think you put too much of an edge with the colors .. which ends up making her look sickly and decaying.. even edgy/boxy. Make the colors blend in better..
take out the edges of the ribs like AndyT did.. I think that makes it look a lot better.. unless you want her to look .. weak/aneroxic/skinny as hell..
the face is wonderful.. nice work. _________________ Help me grow. |
