Hey all. I'm painting a self portrait (none too exciting, but hey, I know what I look like well enough to be confident enough to paint me ;), and it's the first time I've worked in a large size -- its 4136x2840 pixels, at 300 dpi (printable size is 15" by 9" or so, and I'm actually going to change the dpi to 150 to double the size). My photo professor is going to let me print on his sooper-large format printer (44"xinfinite (roll paper)), for which paper and ink is insanely expensive (to a broke college kid, at least), so I want to make sure I have something pretty to put on it. Whew, long sentance.

I've put about 4 hours into this painting so far, and want some other non-tired eyes to see it before I put another 4 or 5 hours. Are the proportions right? How's my shading? Colors? Any suggestions to make it more interesting than just a standard self-portrait? Any help would be, erm, helpful.

Add a background instead of the powder blue ish background wich distracted me while trying to look at it (rather just aggrivated me heh).
The skin color looks too pink, needs probably more yellow (i don't know what color your skin is/was in that light). Smile
The eyes seem off too... the shapes of them and the left eye seems to bulge just a bit but that is probably the distortion from the glasses?
The eyebrow on the right compared to the left should be extended more outward (seems really short).
Maybe could add some reflections on those glasses
Smile
It doesn't look bad at all really... just needs to be worked on more to refine and define shapes (hair, glasses, etc).
If you want me to say more just ask Smile I try to shutup but my hands don't let me. :p
Keep posting the updates you do... Oh and when you are done... don't forget to post it in the self portrait thread in the Gallery/Finished work forum.

Good luck! Very Happy
