I was wondering why I haven't been able to access google. A friend in California told me China had banned google.

I'm REALLY pissed. I've been a google user for years, and nothing else seems to compare.

Any other search engines any of you can suggest that matches google's power?

What about something like dogpile.com that searches various other search engines? I don't think Google is one of the search engines Dogpile uses though. Otherwise you might be able to access google by proxy.

Google does rule. Why is it banned?

Gimbal8- They banned it because it's too easy to use, and they are afraid people here will get information on all the bad things China does through foreign websites.

Someone showed me the proxy trick once, and it didn't work. I might have done it incorrectly though. Can someone show me the proxy trick again? Thanks.

you can try this proxy: http://invis.free.anonymiser.com/
just type this url followed with whatever url you want to see, like this: http://invis.free.anonymiser.com/http://www.google.com

not sure if this is the trick you were thinking of, but it might work.

btw. it also allows linking pictures stored on a geocities site without renaming to .txt

You can use www.metacrawler.com - it searches google among other things like ask Jeeves.

King of Url- Very cool. That works. Thanks!

Coaster- Ya, I found that mirrored one yesterday through the eatpoo guys. It's a rea pain in the ass to have to run a script to reverse it all though.

I discovered by accident that you can access google through icq. Yay!!
