When it doesn't rain, winter around here isn't half bad. But then it rains and the minimal amounts of snow turn to slush. _________________ ~Gio

I could care less either way: it's always nice inside. |

The thing I don't like about winter is the darkness. But winter is very nice and beautiful when there is snow. |

sunny days in winter. cold, dry... the low sun stinging you, giving you a headache and heat waves... the air so cold that breathing hurts.. everything is bleak, trees are like dead, cold dust whips your legs when you're walking, because the wind is so strong - i don't like that about winter.
recently snowed in, though - it's cold, but not chilling.. everything is different shades of white, even the cloudy sky.. the air is pure, it's totally silent, like wrapped in a thick white blanket.. it's a little gloomy even at noon, no wind at all, that special crunching sound of new snow under your feet, all senses seem amplified... i like that about winter. _________________ .think.big. |

We had a fair amount of snow here but the temperature rocketed up for a few days. It's what we call "the indian summer" and now see the celcius plumet until march/april..... Nothing like having your legs frozen so much you can't feel your skin ! _________________ -Aline

I'm working on a super duper transporter that will transport sweden further south during the extremely dark and cold winter months. Maybe place sweden near LA or San Diego during the winter months. I'm still considering the different alternatives. Florida is a good candidate also.
And if some people in this cold place don't want to be moved and rescued away from the darkness, well then they can stay in pitch black Stockholm, we'll just split the country in half and the people who longs for sunshine can jump over the huge crack and enter the "warm sweden".
The rest can stay behind and play hockey all winter long or hunt some mooses or whatever.....good idea huh? |

Living in a university residence makes winter a funny thing. The winter itself is managable, but when the heat goes on in this building, the upper floors turn into a sauna. They keep their windows open in the depths of early January... and are still hot! Being a bottom dweller of the basement, it's a fairly comfortable temperature, but I have to hear all the complaining!
Not to mention that the heaters are unbearably loud. Clanging randomly throughout the night, keeping me from sleep. Ugh...
So no, I don't particularly like winter, but it's the heat, not the cold. _________________ Under communism, man exploits man. Under capitalism, it's just the opposite.

I hate winter. Fall and winter means school, and school is when skinny bookish geeks like me get pounded. It still has that association.
I like it so much here in the south. The temp is ALWAYS between 65-80 degrees (hotter on the downwind sides) and the air is coming off 2000 miles of ocean. It is clean. The humidity is perfect as well, moderated by the trade winds. Another nice thing is since it is so far south, the sun is always well up in the sky and is never dark. There is not the slightest hint of winter, just a drier and wetter season. My house has neither air conditioning or heat, there is no need.
Since the air is so clear, and the sun is high, you can get some sunburn, esp up on the mountain. But also, and that what brings this to mind, the full moons are just amazing, as it is tonight. It is like daytime. And when there is no moon, the stars are incredible.
All this neat stuff that I never saw as a tourist.
Man, many of you guys are so young with no responsibilities. Travel, come here, see the world, figure out what suits you. There are many Europeans here, almost as many as Death Valley. |

I like it in theory. I like it being dark all the time, and I like watching the sunrise and the sunset within a couple of hours of each other. I like the gray winter skies and the breathtakingly desolate pine forests when nobody's around. I like snow blown into waves across the road or an empty field. I like finding a patch of ice and sliding around on it.
What I don't like is being stuck inside almost all the time for months on end. It is very cold here...if I go out, it makes my health worse (I have lung problems).
Winter is also a bad painting season. Usually, I steal colours from the environment--yellows and sap greens in spring, brighter yellows in summer, oranges and browns in autumn...but winter calls for blue, and blue is not my friend. I don't see it properly. My brain refuses to process it. I make mistakes and get reds and greens where none are supposed to be. Painting digitally makes this problem a little better, because I can check the RGB values...but I find I just don't have the control I do with other colours. So, yeah...hate, hate, hate.
I liked living in Texas. Pity I have no green card. I can't go back, now that I try to have a legal means of employment, no under-the-table rubbish. _________________ Dignity isn't important. It's everything.
