Hey

This is a picture that Im working on, I want more detail but Im not really sure how to achieve that.
How do I make good skintone without losing to much of the detail?
Maybe the arms are a little long, I put the belt on him a little too high.
tips and stuff how to change the picture are really welcome.

take it easy

Mathew, I will help you. Why? Because Dr Bang and Roundeye suck big ugly...**** Ok, now onto the help!

First, to be fully honest I can see you put a lot of work into this. You maybe worked on this for a few hours! But it looks like crap.

You've put too much work into it to see it. You need to start over.

You need to go and read this article I wrote http://light1.home.mindspring.com/magic.txt. It explains how important the ability to visualize is in doing fantasy/creative works. The techniques are not a must just to give you an idea how it works. You'll have to work on the rest yourself.

But, you also need to do some sketch work and maybe some copying too. I advise you read some books on sketching. The Natural Way to Draw can give you some ideas but don't believe everything you read. Also, try getting some books on anatomy and how to build up your drawing with cylinder and basic shapes.

But, yes you need to start all over until you get a good stick figure and then build on that. Don't be tempted to try to make a nice painting make up for a bad drawing and don't be tempted to copy photos like many people here do just to win kudos.

Copying has a place too and can be useful but I think you will go further if you concentrate on life drawing, visualizing, and sketching.

Anyway, mirror your work constatly as you work. You'll see the mistakes easier.

One thing that almost every artist has a problem with at first is understanding the human figure as a whole, especially in the facial area, most people will draw the eyes and other parts of the face as seperate entities instead of working them into the face. Even I have that problem still and Ive been doing art since I was 10. Try looking at some tutorials or studying anatomy and it will help out a lot.

flat can be funny, but annoying too Rolling EyesVery Happy

anyway, restart, work on your general atonomy and faces, sketch on paper then start work, coz in this last picture, ur char's face looks like a monkey's (or a faggot as flat would put it), i cant offer much advice, as im not too good at faces myself, though i can say ur guy is leaning foward a little too much, it would e believable if the staff/spear was put this way / instead of \ but... its up to u

don't worry about the detail, that is not the problem. Take the advice of others here and worry about the basics of drawing. YOu will not draw pupils anymore! maybe sockets...
